Haydn -> Differently coloured treble strings...? (May 10 2012 20:56:29)

I've noticed that one can buy packs wherein the treble strings are different colours, for example black, white or red (and I believe I've seen purple and orange mentioned too?). I was wondering whether the difference is purely aesthetic, or if the colour signifies different tonal characteristics or some other property of the strings?

Just curious to know if anybody has the answer?

Thanks guys [:)]

Its just aesthetic.

Not sure if the color literally has something to do with it, but for sure different brands that might have different colors. Best to simply try out different brands. I mean, I have alwasy prefered the look of clear strings, but I can't deny that the La Bella 820 red or black (they both sound a little different too) sound more flamenco then other strings clear or any other color I have tried.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I'll just have to have a play with them to see what sticks. Maybe I'll mix and match to try to find a good combination; sure it might look a bit odd, but it's the sound the counts, right? [;)]

True flamencos only play on black trebles, because they're the color of a gypsy woman's hair.

True flamencos play with gipsy women's hair [:D]

From my personal experience, black/red trebles have a more raw sound (less harmonics maybe?).

Doit, people who are always throwing the "Gay" thing around, usually
turn out to be closet homosexuals.

So when did you know you were gay? Are you top or bottom?

Haydn -> RE: Differently coloured treble strings...? (May 11 2012 0:01:30)

I think I understand what you mean. I wasn't aware the strings could affect the harmonics of the guitar. So many factors to consider....

I believe I've also recently seen PDL using white trebles; are these a similar deal, or a different kind of animal? Does any one have any experience with them?

Unfortunately, Strings By Mail don't seem to have any gypsy hair strings in stock at the moment... [;)]

The white trebles are made by Luthier and can be found at Strings By Mail. I wrote a review of them here in the reviews section of the Foro, and on the SBM site. I like them pretty well all in all.

*sigh* guys, SpongeBob is not gay. He is the bravest and awesomest character i know. He is a superhero, trapped in the body of a sponge.

I mean his best friend is the dumbest organism that exists in the entire ocean and he is still super happy with his life. How much more selfconfident can one get?

True gitano flamencos use fishing line.
