Ricardo -> RE: Question about neck angle of flamenco guitar (Apr. 28 2012 17:05:17)

I think this is lutheir section topic, but as a player not a builder, I say the neck angle is a consequence of the much more important issue of action. A flamenco guitar should allow at least a very slight buzz when played hard, but a personal range all the way to super buzzy all over is acceptable by some players. Zero buzz is not really good at all for flamenco, but seems ok for classical. The neck angle becomes an issure rather then simple bone height adjustment because a LOW BRIDGE is prefered, even if the higher action over the fingerboard is desired too. Hence an angle of the neck is needed so the action is not too buzzy yet the strings down at the bridge are very close to the soundboard to make a comfy feel of rhythm playing. It is definantly a challenge for builders I think as I see so much variation and of course older guitars sometimes that were once set up perfect end up over time with too high action with impossible to go lower bridge. Classical guitars with initial set up of high bridge can much easier be adjusted in the future because proximity of strings to sound board for right hand is not an important playing issue. Ricardo
