Kalo -> Paco's Performance in Arizona (Apr. 26 2012 3:11:02)

Hi All,

Last night I had the honor of attending Paco's show and I thought it was AWESOME!!!

I am still high from last night. I LOVE PACO and he such an inspiration!!

I know there has been disagreement, but, he did play flamenco!!

I liked the band, and yes, even the harmonica player [:)]

The flamenco dancer was breath taking!

Lastly, Paco's playing was PHENOMINAL!!

This probably isn't the best review, but, I just thought I would tell everyone that I really loved the show!!!

Kalo

Just saw him here in Vegas last night!

I had a fear that the music would be way over my head, (some of his later stuff is for me), but that wasn't the case. I thought the show was well balanced throughout. The band killed!!! Yes, there were mistakes, and maybe Paco shows some signs of ageing, but after he got warmed up, man watch out!

I agree with Kalo, the show was 100 percent flamenco. The harmonica and bass was in no way over kill. They didn't play a lot, but what they played fit the show perfectly. My biggest reservation was the harmonica player, but after hearing the show, I see what he adds, and was even glad he was a part of the show.

If I can get a cheep flight, I'll be at the Oakland show tomorrow! That's how pumped the performance made me.

Paco is a man of few words on stage, but his music sure did his talking for him. What I wouldn't give to have just one ounce of that man's talent...

The sound was pretty good, although I would have been fine if the guitar was bumped up a few DB... As I said, the band was killer. Great singers, out of this world dancing and playing. This is the flamenco which I will aspire all of my life to be a part of... If you miss the show your a fool!!!

This show pumped me up so much that if I could I would sell everything I own and leave for Spain tomorrow. At times the music touched me so deeply that I almost cried! And I aint the crying kind! Hearing the man live was 2nd only to sitting down with God!

Hi Ricardo,

LOL, I think he likes Arizona better than D.C.

I think he does too. I would guess that about half of the audience spoke fluent Spanish here (unfortunately not me). I think the "Welcome to Arizona" in Spanish at the beginning of the show made an impression. At least he said "Gracias". Great show, I thought the performers were having fun. At least, they smiled a lot. Parts of it really made me think flamenco jam band. If the Dead were flamenco, that's what they would sound like. :-) Speaking of which, if you speak Spanish, can you tell me what he said to the audience the couple of time he talked?

Miguel de Maria -> RE: Paco's Performance in Arizona (Apr. 29 2012 6:01:20)

I can tell you one thing, that after he introduced the band, he said hola to Lydia Torrea, who was a dancer on one of his earliest tours. She is a friend of mine, and told me the story, but it was cool to see it verified!

BarkellWH -> RE: Paco's Performance in Arizona (Apr. 29 2012 11:45:45)

Miguel,

I went to high school with Lydia Torrea in Phoenix. (She was a year ahead of me and, at that time, was known as Lydia Dzambik.) I'm assuming that Lydia and Paco performed together when both were with the Jose Greco dance group in the sixties. Do you know if that is correct?

Cheers,

Bill

I don't speak fluently, but once while he was tuning between songs it sounded like he said something like "Americans love air conditioning, but it destroys guitars."

I, too, thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was such a pleasure. Being from Wyoming, I was amazed at how many Flamencos were sitting in my general vicinity at the show. I am sure there were more than in the entire state of Wyoming!

Miguel de Maria -> RE: Paco's Performance in Arizona (May 2 2012 15:16:01)

Yes. I believe we have met, sir!
