Hola!
I'm still trying to increase my Flamenco CD collection. Whilst doing so, I have come across another guitarist I have not heard of. His name is MANOLO SANLUCAR. I have managed to get hold of some tabs for a few of his songs that I have played back on my computer programme. To be honest, I quite liked the sound of what I heard. But, if anyone who knows more about Flamenco than I do knows whether his work is worth checking out, I'd be interested to hear their opinion. Also, I couldn't seem to find many of his CDs on the Amazon website, just one or two. But if anyone can recommend a good CD of his to start with, it would be appreciated.

Cheers,

James

PS: let me know if this guy is another one of those guitarists that everyone dislikes!!!

The best I think are Mundo y Formas Vol 1, 2 and 3. Almost impossible to find. I'm still looking for them. Tauromagia and a couple more are still available from Amazon. If you decide to get the Grandes Guitarras Import, this CD includes all of Al Viento. So, no need to buy both.

James,

He is indeed one of the worlds best. Vicente Amigo studied with him if that tells you something. Tauromagia is a must have CD.

Hey guys,

I did a little research and found that all three Mundo y formas cds are available from Amazon Japan. You can display some of the purchasing information in English, then from there open a purchasing window through Amazon US or UK and the buttons are the same so you can just follow the instructions that way and successfully purchase that way - make sense? I did it ok. If you really have trouble you can email Amazon Japan and I'm sure an English speaker will help you make the purchase. It's not very hard to figure out though.

The appoximate cost of the three with shipping was close to $65.00 US.

Definitely get Tauromagia as it is thought by most people I know too be his best work.

flamencoconnection.com has most of the rest of his cds.

Le me know if I can help.

Anthony

Well spotted!!! [:D] I wonder why the Japanese site has them but not the others? Don't think I can afford all 3, but I'll definitely get Tauromagia, and one of the Mundo Y Formas CDs.

Thanks,

James

Tell me the http adress of the japanese page. If its not too much text and you really need the info, I´ll translate it for you.

Paleto -> RE: MANOLO SANLUCAR (Jul. 31 2005 4:46:21)

You can start here for James - I clicked the Display in English button. I'd guess James could use some help so he clicks the right buttons later on in the purchase though.

They're available in Japan I guess because Sony Japan decided to re-issue them. It is well known that there is a large and growing public in Japan that enjoys flamenco.

I agree with what others have said about Tauromagia, and mundo y formas. Another album of his I like a lot is the more recent "Locura de Brisa y Trino" with singer Carmen Lineares. Maybe not for everyone, but certainly a different direction for flamenco as Manolo explores ways of modulating between different flamenco keys.

Amazon in Japan is indeed the only site where we can still find Mundo y Formas. Please leave one each for me if you decide to buy them. I have to wait until the end of the year. The three costs 70 euros including p and p.

You can get Tauromagia from www.amazon.fr via Marketplace Caiman America. They have it in stock and delivery is very fast. Whereas I'll still waiting for La Guitarra Flamenca Manolo Sanlucar for over 2 months and Solo Agua Pepe Justicia for over a month.

Well... For me.. Manolo is one of the greatest of all times. Tauromagia is maybe the best solo guitar album ever made. It was a sensation when it came out. (IT's more than 15 years old!!!!) It's actually a whole composition and not just some bulerias, fandangos etc.

TANúñez -> RE: MANOLO SANLUCAR (Jul. 31 2005 23:49:15)

I agree! Sanlucar is one of the greatest. Get Tauromagia first, then try to collect all of his work. You won't be dissappointed. They are all worth having.

I'm not sure if anybody mentioned it but I think that you should definitly get "RECITAL DE FLAMENCO" From Manolo Sanlucar. It is a lovely solo recording from his early days, this one is a must have from Sanlucar trust me.

Thanks Jimbomac, this is a great album... I now have both this one and Tauromagia, and I prefer the one you mentioned! [:D]
