Not to start a religious war, but wonderimg how much buzz is right for a setup.

I just put on a new set of strings, and now my bases buzz when strummed mildly.
These strings are clearly lower tension then my previous set.

So what's your rule of thumb for determining when the setup is right?

Try posting this in the General section. You may not get replies in the classifieds.

To answer your question though, IMO, this is a personal preference. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

troutie--how much buzz , growl and other animal sounds is probably similar to how one does something with the fly/worm//etc, in trout fishing--do you wiggle here and jiggle there? some may wiggle here and jiggle there and others may jiggle here and wiggle there. ultimately, as TANunez said, it is personal preference.

Somehow sound is referenced with dogs. I don't like the terms "bark" and "growl" and my favorite, "plays like butter". When's the last time you saw someone playing with butter???

That's kind of what I thought, so I was sort of looking for peoples taste and if they have a setup rule of thumb.

In changing to these new strings I noticed that saddle was slightly notched at the string break, and that there was another adjacent lesser notch to the side. so I moved the saddle slightly to the side and thereby raised the action just enough to get the buzz to an acceptable level. Wonder if this was intentional, the multiple saddle notches, as a means to support different string tensions..

With regard to your comment playing with butter - I have two teenage boys. Need I say more:-)
