I'm curious how many of you have your workshops as part of your homes and how many rent shop space somewhere. I would love to have a much larger shop so my choices are to eventually build/remodel an extension to my home or go out and find a space to rent.

I have my shop at home, well my dad's home actually [:D]

I´m a homer. I prefer working at home.

As an amateur, home is only choice. Workbench and wood storage in humidity controlled half of basement, machine tools in garage.

Me too. It's great being able to wake up in the morning, pour a cup of coffee, and walk over to the shop and start working in the cloths I was sleeping in [:)]

That may or may not work depending on the climate and/or who is coming over for a visit that day. [:D]

Mine's across the yard. We're on about 5.5 acres and the house is on the right. About a 45 second walk. From 1992 to 2008 I rented and over the years moved around homewise. The furtherest I was clocked at a 35 minute drive if there was no traffic and the nearest was about 10 minutes. For the last 8 years or so I lived in Boston and Watertown and could commute by bike on the bike path, which was much preferred. I miss that. Biking to work now would be a bit absurd, although I've been thinking of getting a pogostick.

Mine's a detached building. Built it about five years ago. It's my happy place.

Still, sometimes I can see the advantages of an attached shop, as you would be nearer the family and such.

Impressive shop Aaron. Looks spacious and I love the surrounding scenery.

My shop takes up most of the basement of my house. I am a single parent, so working at home with flexible hours is ideal for me. This also provides a nice income-tax deduction.
