I think its been interesting to see the big divide in response to Rumbakings guitar signing by paco. What would you do?
(Jose Frances, Manuel valencia and diego Morao with signed guitars)

No!

rogeliocan -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 14:05:28)

Isn't it a bit like getting a tatoo. I could never think of anything I would like to have on my body, or my guitar for the rest of my life.
From a comment in Rumbaking's signing thread, on a cheaper guitar, it might be an investment...

At the end of the day it is definitely a personal choice , Some say YES , and they are right ....some say NO and they are right too.
For me I am a No . It makes the guitar difficult to clean , and I do not want to put plastic over the top of it , I suppose you could get an engraver to engrave the image into the wood... hmmm....
Now if I was rich enough to have various guitars , then I could dedicate one to the Paco Signature , but I'm not ,
I am not one for autograph hunting anyway , but I would rather he signed a CD or a flamenco Book, or a picture or something , rather than suddenly make my life complicated for no reason .....
I can understand Rumbaking wanting the autograph on his guitar . but If the guitar had cost me that much and was made for me and I waited a while for it and looking forward to it and alll that , then No I would not want it , however I would want to see Paco play it bit , even one tiny weeny falseta , should have had a video for that ,,,,,,,
my 2 cents...

Funny you should mention that, I once met a gypsy afficionado who asked for Pacos autograph but he didnt have any paper so Paco signed his arm. The guy went to a tatoo shop and had his autograph tatooed on permanently!!

I got my red conde signed by Gerardo Nuñez but on the back of the headstock. Its a pretty good place for an autograph without having to worry about what the top looks like

Asking a singer to sign a guitar rather then one of his CD's will be weird.
However I see nothing strange or wrong if a guitar player signs a guitar.

Voted for the last option , the back of the head-stock is a good place indeed.

my answer is yes, he's already signed it [;)]

I suppose it would depend if the signature would add to or detract from the value of the guitar, and whether or not the guitar were regarded as an investment for later resale.

I must admit I find the “groupie” aspect rather off-putting.

Escribano -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 16:08:02)

I would also go for the back of the headstock.... but from Pepe Habichuela.

My option not available. "Don't give a S H I T !!!!!"

Most ridiculous thing is how strongly left or right folks are divided on this silly issue. I can't think of a reason to get a tattoo right now, or sig on a guitar etc, but I think they look cool if someone has one or wants one. If not, plain skin and guitars look cool too. Don't care either way. I have paco's autograph on 2 different CD's by the way. Its personal, I don't feel it affects value of anything, even after say PDL is gone (god forbid). Picasso sig on Manuel Morao's guitar looks cool and is dated...1961. I think the dating is cool cuz it gives a time reference. In Diego's case PDL wrote a cute personal reference which is very nice....something to the effect that look out for Diego he is a lion cub growing up. I like more when guitars get used a lot and take some scars, they always look cooler then shiny new untouched instruments.

Ricardo

Nope. Id feel a bit like a stalker even asking

Paul Magnussen -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 16:41:49)

I remember the English composer John W. (Jack) Duarte telling me that Django Reinhardt signed his guitar when the HCQ toured Britain before WWII. Later the finish on the instrument became worn, and Jack had it repolished. He was kicking himself for years after[:o]

Sean -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 17:36:09)

If Paco was on his death bed and was selling off his favourite Conde I'd want him to sign it, that is if I was filthy rich enough to buy it.

vigrond -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 18:52:00)

Well, gonna go with Ricardo's 'don't give a ****' option,

but really

if I had to say what was more important:

The sacred nakedness of a guitar VS. A sig by a godlike guitarist that would provide untold amounts of stories and inspiration

I'd go with the latter

gounaro -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 18:55:47)

I would let Paco signed my guitar, only if he would decided to donate me one of his expensive guitars.

The second option is behind the headstock!

I wonder what would be Paco's answer if you ask him to sign behind the headstock!

kudo -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 19:10:58)

I would only want moraito signature on the top and Diego del gastor
But unfortunately they are dead, every one else can sign the back

Me too, I already have some on my blanca, nothing intentional of course. I take care, but it's just me after all [:)]

odinz -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 19:25:13)

I would not let anyone sign my guitar...
I am not too big on the whole autograph thing, to me it seems a bit cheap in some way.
It would be alot cooler to learn a falseta from him or something, instead of an autograph.
To me that just seems like a flamenco way of giving an autograph[:D]

In any case I probably wouldnt bother him at all if he did not show interest in me first, I mean I dont know him and it would be sort of strange to me personally.

GuitarVlog -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 19:42:38)

Given the opportunity, I'd have him sign a small spot on the back of my student instrument. But I'd make sure that there'd be space for more signatures.

My objective would be not to have an instrument signed by one artist but by several; turning the back of the instrument into something like a travelogue and memoir of my flamenco journey and the people I got to meet or play with. Of course, it would therefore have meaning only to me and I would keep the instrument for the memories.

Bulerias2005 -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 19:44:43)

Would I allow Paco to sign my guitar if he wanted to? Sure, haha. Would I specifically ask him to? No way. I think there's a good reason why artists sign their own stuff...signing one's own CD is perfectly fine...an autograph on a concert program is cool too... but the guitar is mine, why would I want Paco's name on it? :P

To each his own, of course...

Ron.M -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 19:48:08)

I think if I were a serious guitarist, pro or semipro, I'd feel embarrassed about it.
Not a prob on the back...but the front?

Bit like owning a plastic "Beatles" guitar IMO.

Pimientito's small signature by Gerardo on the headstock is subtle and cool though.

John Martyn (not Juan Martin) had a girl fan come up to him asking for an autograph.
She didn't have a piece of paper, so she dropped her jeans and panties and he wrote it on her bum. [:D]

cheers,

Ron

beno -> RE: Would you allow Paco to autograph your guitar? (Apr. 10 2012 20:08:25)

hahaha It's like having a pornstar to Your wife for a round...I mean just because he's a pornstar and probably do things better...Why would I allow that??? [:D][:D][:D]
It's crazy...and let everyone know what happened...I mean it's on the front! [:)]

Though I could accept Pim's version on a personal opportunity, If I have just a little time together or I studied from Him, and let Him give You a slice of what He experienced with You. I have an autograph somewhere form Paco Pena, I met Him after one of His concerts and just had it in a minute - doesn't mean anything for me....

..BUT when I was in Granada I went to a concert (Capulo de Jerez) and run into Miguel Angel Cortés in a bar right next To the place.. I was a bit drunk [8D] but had a very nice conversation with Him and a singer who I've seen the previous night in Venta el Gallo...He was very nice!!! I asked Him an autograph to a
nepkin that I just picked up right that moment. I also had a beautiful swiss dancer girl there from the school (Carmen de las cuevas) who took a photo and later has sent it to me by email....
THAT nepkin is pinned on a table right next to the monitor I'm just watching at the moment, typing these words...

Cheers

so that the girl's boyfriend would see "John Martyn WAS HERE" on her ass [:D][:D] which would make him think that John ****ed his girl !! hahahahaha[:D][:D]
