For the last 10 days I've been at the Darwin International Guitar Festival. The weather here is awesome - it's mid-winter in Australia right now and its been 32 celcius every day! For the first time in the festival's history we had a flamenco guitarist over; Oscar Guzman who played last night. Adelaide dancer Roshanne danced and I did palmas; then afterwoods we all had a big jam. Oscar's a great player and a really nice guy; the show went down fantastically in front of a mostly classical guitar playing crowd. I've noticed flamenco is starting to infiltrate festivals more and more - whether it be classical guitar festivals, jazz festivals, folk festivals or whatever, the fact that flamenco is so hard to pigeon-hole is working to its advantage - we are slowly taking over the world! (imagine here evil meglamaniac laughter) I have to go back to Adelaide tonight, and I didn't get time to see any crocodiles this trip, but it's been an awesome festival, and good compensation for the fact that I couldn't afford to go to Gerardo Nunez's summer course this year. - Aloysius.
