tateharmann -> When to change chords in soleá or soleá por bulerías (Mar. 15 2012 17:31:13)

After scouring the forum it looks like the generally accepted best practice for beginners like me is to learn the compás. So that's what I'll do. I have a Juan Serrano method book that I've been looking through and I was playing around with the soleá palo last night. It's supposed to be 12 beats with accents on 3, 6, 8, 10, and 12 according to the book. I was assuming since it was 12 beats and 4 chords that each chord would take 3 beats. So I was playing: Am - 1, 2, and 3. G - 4, 5, and 6. F - 7, 8, and 9. E - 10, 11, and 12. Then I would accent 3, 6, 8, 10, 12 with golpe. I then realized that I shouldn't have assumed because I watched Adam del Monte's soleá por bulerías on youtube and he was doing (in D minor key so chords are different): Dm - 1, 2, 3. C - 4, 5, 6. Bb - 7, 8. A - 9, 10, 11, 12. He accented with golpe the same way I did on 3, 6, 8, 10, and 12. So my question is the chords aren't supposed to get equal beats? Maybe that was something I missed in the Serrano book. Also, is it acceptable to play soleá in D minor key? Or is it usually in A minor? Thanks, Sorry for the ignorance Tate
