ORIGINAL: erictjie Ruphus, how much did you pay?what is the weight? Over 500 EUR ( common price level for boutique stuff ), and these are top, as other fellows find too. quote:
Just received a Scheller set. In my opinion, they are better engineered than Rodgers, Grafs, Alessis. All the rotary parts (including the rollers) have true ball bearings, not just bushing. Each gear + roller set is fixed to the base plate by countersunk screws, allowing for easy replacement should the need ever arise. The tuning is extremely precise with no perceptible back lash. Typical teutonic engineering. Mine weigh 146g. Besides, as I see it, there is no universal rule. For some guitars you might want a bit weight on the headstock, on others not. ( Stiffer tops could do with some moment of inertia from the head, whereas more pliable ones be rather suited with less mass on the headstock. I suppose Anders and other luthiers will confirm thelike.) Ruphus
