Shawn Brock -> Solo Compas CD's? (Mar. 6 2012 22:32:44)

Would any of you care to recommend any of the Solo Compas CD's that are out there? I looked on iTunes and seen about 140 results... I just wondered what some of the best bang for the buck may be... Also, are there any which focuses on cante? I heard a few which has guitar, vocal and palmas as example, but then the solo cut not only takes away the guitar, it takes away the vocal as well... Surely there is something out there to rehearse cante with? I heard Jose Tanaka playing cante on his site, and I was thinking he was probably using some kind of solo compas recording...

Thanks as always!
Shawn

hmm some are nice. But some I don´t like because the compas how they mark it is misleading and complicated to hear for beginners. Florian had much better compasCDs in past. Some even with jaleos included. I liked this stuff a lot more.

i think Florian uses Ritmo Flamenco, they are on itunes and so far I think they are the best, besides they have non-popular palos too!

If you get spotify you´ll find a lot of these cd´s there.

So you don´t realy have to buy them.

Thanks all for the recommendations. I had checked out the cante thread, but for some reason I have been unable to download the folder which has all of the tracks. So I will work my way through that this weekend...

The Ritmo Flamenco stuff is great, I downloaded a few things from their collections on iTunes. There are a few more collections which are good, they don't focus on cante, but have solid tracks. I hope that in the future that Ritmo will put the tempo in the title as some of the others do. Its nice to have in case you want to make loops and such in the studio, you don't have to go about messing around with the track to find what the tempo is...

Thanks again,
Shawn

I just checked out the Ritmo Flamenco stuff on Spotify. Very nice! Two issues I found: one, no variety in tempos (and the tempos tend to be pretty quick), and two, the compás tracks are quite short. I like the 15 minutes you get with the solo compás CDs!
