El Kiko -> Old Guitar rescue (Mar. 5 2012 21:23:31)

Dear Luthiers ,.and all , . soon-ish maybe in a month or so I will be starting a project to rescue an old flamenco guitar...yes I will be doing it myself , mainly, but I have plenty of time so I can go real slow ...
Anyway I was wondering about a good place to get some supplies as I would rather get everything from the same place in one order rather than thi from here and that from over there.
Or recommendations for stuff like ,,Golpeadores . hand made rosettes. tuners . . stuff like that .I have been looking around and found a lot of things I could use but thought why not start with advice form here . and if maybe I could post to one of you guys from time to time , to help with the decisions , and you know , when it all goes wrong ...
This is just a little project I'm setting up , I have been thinking about it for a while now , and I think I should be able to do it over the summer , in between other things , ( life ) ,,..

hand made rosettes.

new rosette? Are you going that far? That sounds like a serious restoration if you are going to change that.

Thats what we all say.........

Joking apart, I'd put a budget aside and say - thats what I'm willing to spend. Dont go crazy and put the best/most expensive of everything on it - (what was the name of it - oh Santo something.) Chances are that your taste will dictate where and how you shop and spend. That probably wont be in one place. A budget, a list, then see what you can get, where.
These "little repair jobs" can take up more time than building from scratch - but good luck.

@Flamingrae I understand what you say , i will be using good stuff , maybe not the best but its just as easy to put on a good bridge as a bad one ,
I have found most of the stuff I want in different places and thought, wouldnt it be nice if I could just get it all off one guy , to make things easy you know ...but maybe not ,....Its a fairly big project ,for me , but I have years to do it if I need ,,....you will be the first one to know when it all goes wrong ( or right)

For example the head stock was broken off completely , , the stage lights fell on it while in the back of a lorry ....another long story ,,,,,,,.
Anyway this is now repaired and pinned in , now it is actually the strongest part of the guitar..........
You can see that curve under the head stock which is the repair ...........

I thought that the rosette would have to be redone but now I think that it is saved by some sanding and polishing and a lot of messing about with no clue ..........

El Kiko -> RE: Old Guitar rescue (Jun. 28 2012 21:56:42)

The front of this guitar was really bad , like it was used for ice skating ,,.and anyway I kind of skimmed it down a bit and it still needs polishing .........
