Andy Culpepper -> New Myrtle guitar (Mar. 4 2012 20:16:19)

Shipping this one off tomorrow, thought I would share a couple pictures and a video.
It has a Euro spruce top and Oregon Myrtle back and sides. I like this guitar a lot, it's really fun and has a great lyrical sound that just makes you want to play and play...

Whats the difference between cypress and myrtle?

It has that sound that you manage to build into all of your guitars. Ole!

Thanks a lot guys. Unfortunately the sound in the video is not the best. I couldn't actually use the audio off the mic you see because it wasn't having a good day for some reason.. so what you hear is just recorded through iMovie.

gounaro, I've built 2 myrtle guitars so I can't exactly say for sure. It seems to make well-balanced guitars that have good dynamic range and some of the qualities of both maple and rosewood. Cypress might emphasize the mid-range a little more.

Thanks Andy for your response...

But i think that flamenco guitars ought to have powerful midrange (especially those made with cypress).

If I'm wrong please tell me... [:)]

No you're absolutely right. Cypress in my experience just energizes that midrange more than any other wood. Other woods tend to produce a more balanced sound generally speaking.

Here's a picture of the rosette... handmade of course [:)]
