Anyway, as to the truss rod, I'm surprised your flamenco guitar has one. BUT, and this is a big BUT (get it?), you have to be very careful how you change the truss rod.
The main function of the truss or tension rod, is to set the "relief" of the neck. Relief is the optimal angle that the neck will be set, in order to have the best combination of string height (or lack of height) and the least amount of fret buzz (which would be due to the strings being too low.)
Keep in mind, if you don't know what you're doing, bring the guitar to a professional who has the tools and experience.
But if you insist on doing it yourself, follow a few simple tips:
1) Loosen all the strings
2) make a small adjustment to the truss rod
3) tighten the strings back to standard tuning and wait a while before deciding if you need to repeat the process
IMPORTANT: NEVER adjust the truss rod too extremely! Always in small amounts.
If the truss rod is not tight enough, then the neck will bow upwards too much, causing the strings to be too high off the fingerboard. Based on your description, this is what might be happening. But I'm not saying it is what's happening.
If the truss rod is too tight, then the neck will be too flat, causing the strings to be too close to the fingerboard, and the fret buzz will be really bad along the first 5 or 6 frets.
The ideal setting is right in between those two extremes.
Again, the way to avoid disaster is not to adjust the truss rod too extremely. Only small amounts each time you adjust, then you wait a little to see if the adjustment is good.
