That figure is going to look amazing under finish.

If you want it any more flamed, you'd have to take a match to it [:D]

I vote for the 2nd set because I'm real fond of that sap wood section down the middle. But the coloring is less "koa-y" maybe? (a little dark in some sections). Still, #2! [:)] because it's more interesting visually.

Btw, would you mind mentioning who the builder is? What does that person have to say about any potential tonal differences?

Thanks Juan for your input. the luthier is Salvador Castillo. i have not asked his opinion yet. i really can't decide what i want now

Depends what sound you want to lean more towards Blanca or Negra, better to tell him this, let him choose and thickness appropriately as Koa's density can vary.

I hate to seem negative but in the second set above it almost looks like the sides are preparing splits as we look at them. They do look nice though.
Needless to say I'd go with the top set.

Damn! Salvador is building a lot of negras right now. He had just finished one, then he started mine, and now it looks like your ready to take the plunge...

If your experience with him is anything like mine, he offered me a choice of 2 sets for back and sides, but made sure to tell me that he thought one of the sets was a lot stiffer. My opinion is that if he says to you that one of the sets seems stiffer, I would go with that. He seemed to be pretty clear with me on which set he thought would be the best for my needs...

Looks like our new guitars will be brothers... I have to say Sir, you have good taste...

this is what Salvador Castillo said

Yo prefiero utilizar esta madera, ya que la persona que me la vende tiene 12 años con ella, esta bien seca y para mi es mas importante esto!!!....

He likes the clear one and i agree with him. I hope the sound is more towards blanca. it costs me more than brazilian rosewood negra though.
