Yes, Paco will be in Edinburgh with a quintet on Wednesday 5th October, Usher Hall. That's the good news. The bad news is that the tickets cost 40 quid!

It would only take him 2hrs to fly to sweden. What the He** is he waiting for.[:@]

El Oud -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 6 2005 16:37:26)

The obvious response, Henrik, is that it would only take YOU two hours to get to Edinburgh and hear the greatest flamenco guitarist of all time[;)]

And beforehand a foro get together for a drink. How about we name a bar?[:D]

duende -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 6 2005 18:16:13)

He´s (paco)got the cash to go..I don´t. Scotland is very expenssive to go to from here.

El Oud -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 6 2005 21:04:24)

I was only joking. Scotland IS expensive, and it rains most of the time. Why do I live here?![:@] Has Paco never played Sweden?

That would be great. Let's see who else can make it. But the concert is not for four months yet. Plenty of time to get organised.

Paco played here in -84. The "live one summers night" tour. And in -92 with the trio Cañizares and Juan Carmona. I was to young and had never heard of PDL nor started playing guitar at that time.

Now four months might seem a long time but I would like a good seat if I'm going to see the great man, and I need to book an air ticket early. I had a look on the web but couldn't find ticket sales. El Oud do you have any ideas?[8|] At the moment easyjet return in oct london/Edinburgh £36 incl tax - not bad

As for the rain its true october can be bleak but I remember four days of non stop rain in Stockholm the only time I went.[:D] And it could be worse, it could be in Glasgow (continuous rain) or Aberdeen (continuously freezing). But one thing with scotland there is always a warm welcome in the bars (despite it having been said that the Scots have deep pockets and long arms[:-]). So how about it Jim and Ron[:D]

Why did you go in October?[:)]

Guest -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 7 2005 7:22:49)

Oh there's nothing like Sweden (or Denmark) in Oktober. Gray and rainy. Deep melancholic thoughts. Reading Strindberg and watching Bergmann films.
It's so romantic. [:D]

duende -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 7 2005 7:32:49)

[:D]

flyeogh -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 7 2005 7:41:01)

I don't think that was why I went!! More like work. But I do remember the beer was horrible and cost three times the price of England but the atmosphere in the old parts was great. Just an ideal place for an open air PDL concert, in summer of course.[:D]

Joder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In Scotland you drink malt, not beer. In Andalucía, you drink manzanilla. There is no choice: you have to go with the ola[:D]

Sean

Guest -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 7 2005 17:43:48)

Sean, I'm English, the auld enemy (com'on Belarus), but being in Edinburgh this very night I can assure you the choice of beer here is great. And the prices are low compared with England. And the sun's shining, and two blues guitarists are busking in Rose st. and .....[:D]

flyeogh -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 7 2005 17:44:45)

Sorry, that last one was me[8|]

duende -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 7 2005 19:56:20)

im in sweden... nothing wrong with my single malt.. nor my gunniess[:D]

Guest -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 8 2005 7:23:47)

I'm in andalucia.

Nothing wrong with the Manzanilla, el sol, el aire puro de flamenco, the beautifull girls etc. But I could do with a bit of melancholic rain. It's so romantic.

We are having the dryest year in 50 years...... It's dry.

Umm, maybe I should keep the water tank behind the house for a while and fill the fridge with Alhambra beer[;)]

I'm in Somerset, just about to set off for the ship at Plymouth. Should be in Santander tomorrow morning and Madrid for the first night's stop.

Probably won't get back on-line for a while now so take care guys and we'll talk again soon.

duende -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 8 2005 15:19:37)

the first time i was in Madrid it rain for the first time in.....well a very very long time..[:D]
It must be me.[:)]

Guest -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 8 2005 15:43:50)

Simon

Get that watertank out, so that we can sit outside, play and drink your cold beer.

Good luck on the journey. See you soon.

flyeogh -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 9 2005 18:48:46)

Jim, I'm sending a cake [:@] Make sure your out by October --- We need you to buy the beer[:D]

Note: The last comment was entered in a state of desperate hope[;)]

Simon by now you will be on your way but bien viaje anyway

Working on it, but the bars are thick.

flyeogh -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 10 2005 17:23:55)

Jim I have just observed:

In modern German language "OPFER" has two meanings:
- victim
- sacrifice

With German origins we will expect large foam-a-loads like in Munich. That is if you escape before you become the sacrifice[:o]

I still can't find any reference to the concert even on the Usher web site. I have however found a suitable bar nearby. Guess that says something about my priorities[:D] Seriously does anyone have more info

Me too...
Rob...when did you hear about this?
Is it definitely on, or just a possibility?

cheers

Our friend, Gordon Milne of the Dundee Guitar Festival, has insider knowledge. He says it is definitely on but it is very new news, so to speak. If I hear any more, you'll be the first to know. Paco is coming as part of a quintet: two guitars, singer, percussion and bass. I don't know the names of the players.

BTW, I know the fee. Have a guess...

Rob

flyeogh -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 11 2005 10:33:24)

Rob, first many thanks for the insider info. I normally miss out on these things but I will now keep polling the Ushers site until the tickets are on sale. Unfortunately you've spoilt the competition - you told us £40 earlier on (unless of course it has gone up[:o]). But I understand Ushers is compact and that it is a good venue; someone said it is like a small Albert Hall. I don't mind if I get a good seat as for me it will be once only. I prefer my Flamenco more native.

If anyone has experienced Ushers and could comment on the acustics it might help. Is position critical?

Guest -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 11 2005 12:26:36)

I meant the fee Paco is charging the promoter...
Rob

flyeogh -> RE: Paco de Lucia in Edinburgh (Jun. 11 2005 13:28:11)

Rob, lo siento.

My guess £26000.

Whats the prize? An hour lesson with PDL? [:D]
