satch1982 -> Juan MartnSolos Flamencos (Jan. 7 2012 12:34:39)

IS this a good book for beginners?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Play-Solo-Flamenco-Guitar-Mart-N/dp/0786664584/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1325943143&sr=8-3

Its goes from grade 0-5

Want to get a good good to get me started... i though this was good as it has a DVD and a CD to listen to sound of the tracks rather than just reading tab.

Flamenco is more about the sound right?

It's well worth the money and has quite a few nice pieces.

yes

Depends what you mean by beginner.
If you know none of the lright hand techniques I would say not at all.
If you know the right hand techniques, than, definitely.

Paul Magnussen -> RE: Juan MartnSolos Flamencos (Jan. 8 2012 16:15:18)

That’s a book of graded solos. If you’re a complete beginner, you want Juan’s tutor, which is El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra. It’s an excellent book.

If you already play guitar a bit, an alternative might be Dennis Koster’s opus:

Gerhard Graf-Martínez’s video lessons are also valuable:

thanks guys,

Well I have been playing guitar for 13 years mainly playing blues, rock, fingerstyle in various styles. I did buy a book for flamenco a while a ago but my flamenco teacher at the time said not a good book.... each piece went of for 4-5mins....

I have only had a few lessons with him so learnt a basic soleas

So my left hand is used to most things its getting used to sticking that thumb out with the left hand.

rogeliocan -> RE: Juan MartnSolos Flamencos (Jan. 8 2012 17:51:45)

I'm so sorry, I meant the right hand techniques. I corrected my previous post.
For example, can you play picado, rasgueado, arpeggios, etc...

Juan Martin's books/cds/dvds are on my wish list. Thanks for all the
info on the thread. I have just started flamenco guitar lessons.

For satch1982, I would like to add another book. The Total Flamenco Guitarist
by Jonathan "Juanito" Pascual. I have seen him in concert in person
a few years ago and he is awesome. The book also has a cd.
It is from the Alfred Music publishing.

Good luck with your flamenco guitar lessons.
