I was recently checking out one of Adam del Monte's on-line videos in which he mentions the "thumb-noodle" trick for playing certain passages in Tarantas?

Can anyone enlighten me as to exactly what is this so-called "thumb-noodle" trick; how to do it, and where is it used??

I never heard of it anywhere before. . .

I only find maybe what you saw on tube at about 2.36

youd have to talk to some one who did the tarantas package , or do it your self , this is what he calls it others may have a different name for the same thing ...

This is simply using your pulgar like a pick - as though doing alzapua on a single string. Just use your pulgar doing up and down strokes (with the back the nail and the flesh-nail interface).

I've been experimenting trying to imitate gypsy-jazz picking by doing this although I find it problematic for sweeps and the 1st string - has anyone tried playing gyspy-jazz with the thumb before? tips?

The thumb 'noodle trick' Adam plays is alzapua on a single string combined with ligado...used in a sextuplet run or fast triplets. Although I can't play it up to speed as in the Video demonstration I find it a good exercise for the thumb even when played slowly. I can thoroughly recommend the Tarantas lesson package...I learnt a great deal from it....really detailed stuff....

If you want to see this technique in a real life situation check out Rafael Cortés playing a killer bulerias
At about 4:23 into the storm...he does it all and effortlessly....
