Teslaclyffe -> Finger nails, and other stuff. (Dec. 27 2011 2:23:30)

Hey everyone. It's been awhile, but I'm back; this time with a two part question.

Last time I was here you helped me settle on my first guitar, and I'm quite pleased with it. But now, I'm having trouble with my fingernails. You see, I'm a pianist, and when I grow my nails out, even just a little bit, they break when I play piano. I don't have weak nails either (I could drive screws with these things!), but every time they start to get long they break. (see picture). So my first question is, can I prevent them from breaking somehow? Are there other options to get the feel/sound of nails, but without the hassle? I have my doubts.

My second question is completely unrelated, but are there any good flamenco pieces for solo guitar and bass? My brother is a bassist (electric), and we're trying to find pieces we can play together. Just about all I can find is Entre dos aguas, but there's bound to be more.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

P.S. Sorry for the giant picture, I don't know how to shrink it down. Also, ignore the dirt under my nails, the flash made them look really bad, hahaha.

Yes you can prevent them from breaking. Search the forum about this topic, and you will find TONS of material. It is a matter of finding what works best for you. People have tried glue, nail hardeners, supplements, etc.

To get the feel/sound without biological nails, you can use acrylic or fake nails. If not, you can think about finger picks, but that was never very favored. You can try playing WITHOUT nails, but it will never sound like playing with nails.

As you can see, this is not a straight-forward issue...

1.glue them and keep them short
2.I believe that any rumba could be played with a bass such as entre-dos-aguas
