I'm learning rasgueo and am curious how other people would apply it to the end of the Miller's Dance by Falla. Right now I'm using an aii triplet pattern because it's the only triplet I've gotten the hang of so far. What do you guys use?

This is a perfect example of when the classical schools fail to employ flamenco technique where it is clearly implied. De Falla lived in Granada and was certainly influenced by flamenco guitar players. These triplet patterns sound great played with flamenco p,a,i or at the very end p,m,p rasgueos.

The "Miller's Dance" is a farruca, isn't it.

I dug out the score of this again. You are correct Richard, it is a farruca. Now it seems to me a bit nonsensical to expect a classical musician to interpret a farruca if they dont know what a farruca is! These rasgueo patterns are scored but not fingered and that gives rise to all sorts of interpretations with varying degrees of authenticity.

I have uploaded a fragment of the score. This is the first rasgueo and rhythmically it goes "diddy di diddy di dum dum, dum (rest) diddy di dum dum" The first beat is marked as rasgueo so you could easily do a,m,i on the first beat followed by up, down, up with the first finger for the pattern.

For me however, the rhythm of the farruca is best accented here by ending the last beat of the first bar with a downstroke with i and starting the next beat with p before doing a normal triplet rasguedo. The first rasgueo is scored FF (very loud) so I would do p,m,p triplet rasgeos for each first 4 beats, an upstroke of p for the first "dum" followed by a downstroke of i for the second"dum", a rest with the edge of the hand on the strings and then a strong downstroke with p to start the next bar. (hope that makes sense)
