gounaro -> Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 5 2011 18:39:12)

I really like to sit down and practice, but always something happens and disturbs me from that. Problems from work, my home, my girlfriend [:@] make me evolve very slowly...

FullMetalGuitarist -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 5 2011 19:27:34)

Indeed that is a problem.
About 5 years have passes since I started playing a guitar.
3 out of those years I was in the military and 1.5 out of them I was in college (well I'm still in [:)] ) .
If your not learning music as a profession it is hard to find time for an effective practice [:(] , at least so I think.

Elie -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 5 2011 19:33:17)

yea tell me about it [:(] same here
I am at college too and I have a part time job ... I'm just playing about 30 mins daily and didn't learn anything new since couple months [:@]

Martin -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 5 2011 19:34:59)

NO time at the moment, been having the kitchen refitted. So no progress on guitar

beno -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 5 2011 19:53:14)

Ahhh, don't wanna hear about it! [:@]
I have a very strong inspiration for pactice, but it's a pain in the ass these days...
I wake up at 6 every morning, got home aound 5-6 p.m. and have to little child (2,5ys, and 3 months) so it's around 21:15 they off to bed, and when I even have a little time to practice with sponge, and maybe just left hand....
still not had ahower and dinner...
Progress??? Uhhh, these are f*cking hard times on me...[:(]
It's driving me crazy, 'cause at this point I feel like I've already know what to practice, and how to do it...only thing I miss is time

kudo -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 5 2011 20:06:18)

same here man, we all have our own problems.
well I have things I work on privately for myself, community and other commitments, and I have a full time day job. so I leave at 7:30 am and barely have time to eat, and get back home by 10 pm by the earliest during weekdays. I barely have time for food and shower to slip 1 or 2 hours IF IM LUCKY of practice till midnight or 1am, and when i do practice, I would very tired and just so relaxed and almost have no energy for any heavy stuff, more like a solea warm up or something.

that being said, I have no childern, no girlfriend, no family around me, and no wife and IM THAT BUSY! [:@] If I had a car, I could have saved 2 hours in my day, but unfortunately I have to take the long bus rides!![:@] I can not afford a car, insurance, gas and parking space, not at all!! [:@]

so on the weekends, its mostly guitar until im dead tired.

Luxury.

I have to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

Change girlfriend to wife/ex-wife and add kids to the mix and you might get a better idea of what alot of us are going through.

ArtZumer -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 9:33:31)

Out of interest, how much do you think someone should practice, if they are semipro, or even profesional?

Practice, whats that? Is it something I can do when I dont play the guitar? Because I just play the guitar so I dont really have time for this thing "practice"....[:D]

gounaro -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 13:20:34)

Finally i'm not the only one...

Argaith -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 13:42:10)

I ditto all above said (day job, evening work at home, small children, wife, practicing with a sponge, even busier weekends, etc)[:@]

However, I practice as much as I can. I can see improvement although not as fast as I expect [:(] . I have a fantastic teacher who helps me stay on the right route; I have to work hard enough in order not to disappoint him too!

Keep practicing folks:)
A

gbv1158 -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 14:08:38)

I play one to two hours per day and the entire weekend (my wife will kill me one of these days! :-) )

stratos13 -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 14:12:19)

Being angry is no way to fight this problem.

The trick is to find people to play with or play for dance class or play at a restaurant or something. You have to set it up as an obligation for you and others to see it as such.
[;)]

My problem is bigger! I have moved (due to work) to a city where NOONE plays or dances or knows what flamenco is [:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:(][:o][:'(][:-][&o][>:]

At least i go to the gym now!

Ricardo -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 15:15:00)

On one hand I am lucky I get to perform a lot, but on the other, I don't get to literally practice at home much. Very rare that when I am inspired I can actually sit down and work on something for more then a few minutes before an interruption of some sort. And then of course times I don't feel like playing when I do have a free moment to myself. A lot of my gigs are Rumba and while I get to keep technique up such as picado arps and strumming with the drum machine (its like metronome practice sometimes) and improvisation, my actual flamenco stuff suffers. When I do practice at home, i can usually just make it through a few passes of one piece or two. I no longer have time to run through my solo guitar repertoire or whatever like I did pre baby. [;)][:D] I agree it can be frustrating.

gounaro -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 15:20:07)

I suppose Ricardo that anyone wants to get balanced between flamenco and daily program. But noone is satisfied with that. Almost everyone who's involved with flamenco seriously wants more from himself!

vuduchyld -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 6 2011 18:47:40)

We just had a baby 11/7/11.

Of course, time management isn't a subject specific to the flamenco crowd. EVERYBODY could use more time.

There are times in your life (I'm in one now with a young baby) when you just have to take what you can get. As the Buddha tells us, though, NOTHING is permanent. Roll with it and make some changes when you can.

machopicasso -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 7 2011 10:07:52)

A lot of the comments on this thread invite an important question: namely, what's the best way to practice if you don't have much time and/or are subject to frequent interruptions?

I once had a classical guitar teacher (a student of Segovia) who said there's a world of difference between playing a mere 15 minutes and not playing at all on a given day. Years later, I'm inclined to agree. If I have a busy day but am able to practice for 20 minutes, then it seems I'm able to more or less maintain my point of progress. If I have to skip a day, then it feels like the first time back I'm catching-up.

So, curiously, if you only have 15-20 minutes to practice, what's the most effective way to use that time?

sig -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 7 2011 15:02:04)

I agree, if you can't pratice a couple hours each day and have only 15 or 20 minutes make the most of it. If I have a moment i'll grab my guitar and spend 5 minutes warming up with some scales, picado or something I feel I'm "good" at then spend the other 10 minutes working on a skill that needs practice like Tremolo or Arp's or perhapas a section of a piece that has been giving me trouble or needs some tuning up.

I think it is very important to at least try and do something everyday even if its only for a few minutes...
Sig--

gounaro -> RE: Angry not finding peace to practice (Dec. 7 2011 15:13:27)

Agree... But sometimes you want to practice more as your personal schedule says.

For example: If i want to practice tangos and then some falsetas from other palo, 15-20 minutes are not enough.

I already stuck with some Moraito's tangos falsetas (soon i'll upload a video) but i feel that i want to go further...
