Ronzito -> Madeira Inc for Wood (Dec. 2 2011 19:22:57)

Has anyone experience with Madeira Inc in Portland for wood, Spanish Cypress to be exact? Their price + shipping cost is reasonable, but I haven't found any references to them here. Thanks for any info!

I've never heard of them before but I suspect that someone from Miles Gilmer Hardwoods is involved. He's the only one I know of with the contacts to do this kind of business. If it is Miles I can say the he's an honest and upfront businessman and I've always enjoyed dealing with him. I can't say that for all of his employees though.

Madeira inc is definitely not part of Gilmer, or, as far as I know, associated with Myles in any way. I visited them to look at brazilian RW sets about a year ago. I already had a decent supply of Spanish Cypress at the time, so I was mostly looking at BR. However, I did take a quick look at their cypress. It was of sufficiently-decent quality. One thing I recall, is that grading was not terribly consistent, and several sets had quite a bit of flat-sawn figure in them. Having said that, I recall that they were low on Spanish Cedar, and their current supply may be of more consistent quality now.

I hope this is helpful.

I just visited their site, and it looks like you can see the exact sets photographed, so you would be able to judge figure/appearance of the wood you are buying. The guy running the office in Portland was professional.

Well there you go Peter, I moved out of Portland about 8 or more years ago and presumed that Miles would be the logical progenitor of this endeavor since he was the only good source of guitar hardwoods when I lived there. One lives and learns.

Many thanks for the responses. I'd feel better about ordering there if they had gotten back to me on several phone & email messages.
