Hafez -> Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 2 2011 9:12:13)

Hello guys,

Im a new member so I thought, how about sharing in my first post.
I' ve posted a buleria on youtube
you can check it out and if you like it Ill be happy to write down the tabs or maybe make a video where I show the falsettas slowly. They're pretty easy playable and I use them for my own students.
Just as background info : I studied Jazz guitar in the Hague conservatory, but my real love as I discovered later, is flamenco. Now I work as a performer and as a teacher.
Anyways, hope you enjoy the tune and all kinds of responses are more then welcome.
Im a new member but already Im enjoying the forum a lot.
Saludos,
Hafez

Ole Hafez !
I really enjoyed your buleria, it was very enjoyable and smooth to my ears
I felt some parts were taken from Jason McGuire ? maybe I'm wrong [;)]
if you can post a video teaching the falsetas that would be awesome because as you mentioned they're easy and playable but also they're catchy and that's something interesting and important.
oleee and welcome to the forum Hafez.[:D]

Hafez -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 2 2011 9:35:55)

Thank you Elie,

I think I used a Jason McGuire compass in there. (the G7 chord thingie ;) )
Im so used playing that one, I think its lovely!
I' ll record a video showing the falsettas

Saludos,
Hafez

ToddK -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 2 2011 13:39:47)

Nice gesture to give away falsettas. Thank you!
But you sound like you're still learning though.
You'll find alot of great instructional material on this forum.
Best of luck!

As promised a video explaining one of my falseta' s

I hope you like it.
So please leave a comment if you like or absolutely hate it [:)]
And if you like I have some easier and some harder stuff I can post so I ll be happy to answer your requests.

just as extra info: Im a jazz guitarist, but I really adore flamenco. So this results in a decent understanding of harmony and an agile left hand, BUT oufffff !!!!!!! the right hand!
so Im working my ass of to get a solid right hand technique but this will take a wile. So if anyone has suggestions for improvement of the right hand, Ill be more then willing to hear them.

Saludos,
Hafez

kudo -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 3 2011 0:31:02)

damn....jazz guitarists always have interesting stuff going on in the left hand when they come into flamenco

Thanks for the tutorial vid. Great one, well explained.
Btw what's the relationship about Tetuan' story and flamenco?

welcome to the foro.

orsonw -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 3 2011 13:07:37)

Thanks for your video explaining your bulerias falseta. I'm ignorant of theory so I enjoyed hearing you explain the chord names but as you say who cares about what they're called, especially in flamenco?

Good luck with the right hand. There is a lot of helpful discussion regarding that here on the foro.

kudo -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 3 2011 13:38:23)

i like your tarantos falseta at 1:04 of this video:

Then your like me .. years playing jazz and that type of harmony etc . at college and afterward get into flamenco which nearly all depends on the right hand ,,.. hence really bad tremolo for one example......[:@]

Elie -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 3 2011 13:49:47)

hey Hafez I'll certainly steal your falsetas
as I said your falsetas are relatively easy and playable and the same time they're catchy . thank you for spending the time making the tutorial [;)]
Oleee !! we ahlan wa sahlan feek bel forum hayda

Florian -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 3 2011 21:49:17)

Hello Hafez, welcome to the forum, thanks for sharing

Hafez -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 4 2011 9:49:04)

Thank you guys for your reactions!
If you have any feedback for me as how to improve the tutorial I'll be happy to hear it.
My idea is to post little tutorials on a more regular base. Since I have a jazz background I will be focusing more on the harmonic side of things ,even more because Im trying to figure out for myself what right hand technic will suit me best. (and I don't have to tell you guys how hard it is to get a solid right hand technic)

I have on big issue going on now which I really could use some help with.
Because I' ve been playing too much lately I'm suffering from pain in the left wrist.
First I didn't think too much of it, but now the pain is so much present that I have to stop playing. I decided to stop playing for a couple of days and then build up really slowly.
Does any of you guys ever encountered this problem? And how did you cope with it?
Thank you!

Saludos,

Hafez

mrMagenta -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 4 2011 20:58:22)

Hello Hafez! Welcome to the foro!

I'm suffering from left hand wrist problems right now. For me it's an inflammation in a tendon. I've decided not to play with my left hand at all for two months.. for me it is getting better but very slowly. when I play, the pain comes almost immediately. I still haven't found any really good thing for helping this, except using an ortopedic brace when sleeping so the wrist is straight, and avoiding activities that cause pain (for me it comes especially when opposing the thumb). I've just started doing strengthening excersises with a rubber band, similar to lifting a weight. I've had this for over a month now.. if I find something that helps I'll report to you. At the moment my fysiotherapist is doing laser therapy on my wrist.. still don't know if that has any effect at all.

Hafez -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 5 2011 17:46:17)

Hey mrMagenta,

Ow that sounds really bad..Im sorry to hear you are having so much problems with the tendon. I hope it will improve for you!
Did you try doing stretch exercises?
I found these exercises to be helpful for me. After I do a couple of exercises I really feel a decline in pain. Maybe you could give it a try? If I find anything else Ill keep you posted.

Saludos,
Hafez

Hafez -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 5 2011 17:48:00)

Thank you Kudo! I think it was mor of an improvisation then a really thought out falseta :)

XXX -> RE: Steal my falsettas :) (Dec. 6 2011 15:46:44)

thx and welcome! the explaining video is much faster and better. great! not that easy, id say medium to play, because of lefthand mainly. composition wise you dont have to hide yourself, this could be on any modern flamenco guitar album. also a very long falseta, which is not easy to compose.
