yes he's a real fine player, I have his concert on DVD "yamandu costa ao vivo"
he plays with extra bass (7-strings) he plays brilliantly but as a personal taste i don't really like his style [:)]
good stuff thank you for posting.

Some of his stuff is a bit 'out there', but personally I really like him... his latest album is really nice... it's called 'Mafua', you can find it on 4shared [:)]

Yamandu is one of my favourite guitarists...anywhere...anytime..a true master and innovater of the styles created by Baden Powell and Raphael Rabello...
had the extreme luck of playing a set with him at the last Adelaide guitar festival [with the guitar trio i play with]...this year we get Jason!!
4 days of jamming....an unforgetable highlight in my life...amazed i remember it with all the beer consumed...
he also jammed with some flamenco's till the wee hours...his knowledge of music is mindblowing
the you tube link is his last night in australia at a gathering with one of australia's finest guitarists..Doug de vries..also a monster player...
the pitcure is a happy snap on the same night having a jam...
the guy never seems to sleep
seen playing till 7am...up at 10am...always a guitar [or beer] in his hand..
thanks for the post..

hey AlVal,
I liked your "La Cathedral" in Bulerias 6 rhythm very much [:D]
gonna steal the idea

thanks Elie

a bit rough... few fluffed notes......needs work ...but thought it could work shifting the accents to a bulerias in 6...figure it might end up as a buleria in a taranta key.
still working on it...the 3/8 bar is a bit of a conundrum...
he he accidentally put the link up..you must of seen it before i put the right video up[:D]

Porra! What a valsa! Beija Flor, eh? Do you know the composer Al?

Either Doug was holding back or being humble, or the opportunity didn't arise..but I didn't see him do anything like that when I met him a few years ago in Brasil.
He's killing it! I just watched him do his version of Lamentos do Morro on YouTube.
Amazing stuff.
I saw Alessandro Penezzi and Alexandre Ribeiro do their version of that on this summer. They did like a 7 minute version with a huge amount of original stuff they did to contribute to that workhorse of a tune. It was more or less this:

oh wait..just watched it again. What I saw them do was either different..or it did not occur to me at the time that it was a medley of two tunes.
There was much partying at the time. [;)]

hi Brian
it is one of Dougs pieces called 'hummingbird'
he freely distributed the score so let me know if you want a copy..
will run it passed him but cant see an issue..were all playing it over here!

the guitar he [yamandu]is playing once belonged to Alessandro
a friend was taking online skype lessons with him..and ended up buying his guitar
it now has a home in Australia...

Al - it'd be great to get a score of that DeVries waltz!

Thx
B

Wow, he plays super beautifully on complex stuff without making any poop faces.
