Kate, I own up, its a fair cop, society is to blame[:o] Don't forget Simon's advice and smile. You can't be too careful. Check your airline carefully. Here is a small selection of the diverse info on offer from the airlines. Note the precision statement and detail offered by my national carrier[:D] British Airways - Notify office before hand for large musical instruments Air France - Prior notice essential Easyjet - A cello requires a pre-paid seat. Other musical instruments will only be permitted to be carried in the cabin and placed into the overhead locker if space is available and strictly subject to the Captain's discretion. The instrument including its carry case must not exceed the dimensions 30 x 117 x 38cms. Ryanair - Should you wish to check-in a musical instrument, such items will only be accepted on a ‘limited release’ (i.e. entirely ‘at your own risk’ for damage or delay) basis. You may therefore wish to ensure that you have suitable private insurance cover in force for such items. Delta - Small instruments such as violins will be accepted as your free carry-on baggage item. However, the instrument must be within the limitations of Delta's baggage allowance and carry-on baggage size limits.
