I have two guitars for sale in my shop. One is a guitar of mine, Stephen Faulk 2010, that is used, the other is an Eduardo Ferrer from Granada.

They are good players flamenco guitars and reasonably priced. Both guitars are blancas and in very good condition. I will have a sound sample of the Ferrer shortly. Both guitars are Spanish Cypress back and sides with Spruce tops.

The asking price for the Ferrer is 3600.00

The Stephen Faulk is 3400.00

I have more photos, and information about these instruments. I'll post pictures and add information if anyone wants to know more.

Thanks for looking.

This first picture is the front of the Ferrer.

Very nice guitars, but I am always partial to Peg Heads.
Great sound track by Jason.

Bumping it up for Stephen - have these been sold yet? That blanca of yours, is that this one?

There's bit of wiggle room on my blanca, it's a nice Christmassy guitar which plays flamenco year 'round.

Yes it is. I bought it back from the first owner so I could resell it myself and see it after a year. This was the deal, that I had first refusal to repurchase it because I originally sold it for practically nothing to get it out there in the world.

It's a guitar for someone who likes a soft sweet spot and traditional sound. It would be a good guitar for someone who does not want to fight with a tight guitar, but it still has guts and you can lean into it when you want. It's a lovely piece of artisan work and it's a treat to play.

Not a bad idea, I would feel like a kid again to see that under the Tree.

Hey Stephen, in the spirit of Christmas, you could place it under my tree, and I would be so happy I would piss myself! Going to email you to set up a time to talk. By the way, have any audio on it? How does she compare to the POC that you have one set left of. After building 4 of the POC I'm sure you have some great insight you could share. Aw you master builders...

Shawn,

I think the Port Orford guitars, I've made three or four ( I can't remember), are generally warm. Warm and dark in the same way cedar tops can be warm. I think it depends on what kind of top you use. I have also made the ribs with Port Orford outsides laminated over Ash or Maple veneer on the inside. I think that made that guitar a bit "glassier" maybe. It could have been my perception.

Port Orford makes wonderful guitars, but you have to keep them from getting "woolly" sounding, the softer woods used for back and sides, In my opinion, can be unfocused if you don't make them thick enough. Again it's just my take on it. I leave more wood in the Port Orford backs and sides than in the Cypress. I usually brace the backs at about 3mm and I've increased the brace size and mass and lowered the placement on the back. This is all in accord with the received wisdom between guitar makers that softer, less dense woods need thicker dimensions in order to have a profound voice or presence. Then I sand the back when the box is assembled and 'tune' it a bit. By tune I mean thump until it resonates freely and sounds/responds like a tabla. I take all this in to account when I feel the cross grain stiffness of a back in relation to it's mass and weight. When talking about backs and sides of various woods and how they function I tend to focus more on the back. You can modulate the response of the back with thickness a braces, the ribs don't l exactly go along for the ride, but honestly I spend less time thinking about how the ribs affect the whole. At least at this time.

With any various types of back and side wood you can only do so much and then the top comes into play. Most of what the guitar is determined by the top. But if I can offer a general opinion about POC is that it makes warm guitars, unless you veneer one side or the other. The thing to be cautious about is allowing warm to take over and turn into "warm and fuzzy". Warm and fuzzy is not profound. I seek the profound if I can get it.

I would have to see your security clearance to tell any more.

[:D]

I'm going to see if I can get a sound clip of Cypress guitar of mine up, depends how busy Jason is this weekend. He said he would play it for me. As for the difference between POC and Cypress I'll let you decide over time as the POC guitars get send you to various people. I just took the last order so that is closed. I will be charging more now.

P.S. I'm not a master builder, just a good practitioner / and no guitar is worth peeing on yourself.

Hey Stephen, thanks for sharing some input on the Port Orford. Just curious - now that you've built a couple of these guitars, are you finding a preference in using cedar over spruce (or vice versa)? My layman guitarist brain tells me that if you were trying to avoid an overly warm sound you would probably go with spruce, but I'm quickly learning that cedar top blancas can have an incredible bite.

estebanana -> RE: Eduardo Ferrer and Stephen Faulk Blancas available (Dec. 21 2011 17:47:42)

I'm just now making a bridge for the first POC w/ Cedar top - So we're both going to see what happens.

I braced it a little differently and actually added a "Bouchet bar". I'm anxious to hear it. Also note I made it as a blend of classical and flamenco. My thought for this player was to get a singing sustaining guitar, but with a rough voice. Like if Louis Armstrong were a guitar. But I might just be dreaming that up. You never know until you put strings to it.

ralexander -> RE: Eduardo Ferrer and Stephen Faulk Blancas available (Dec. 21 2011 18:08:11)

Ahhhh exciting! I've never actually played a cedar top blanca. Spruce has always been my go-to for every guitar. I did request spruce for my blanca, but I feel like I want to just say use whatever top you think is best. I used to get so anal about wood choices with my acoustic guitars - drove me nuts over-thinking things when in reality the choice of any particular species seems to pale in comparison to how they are used and how each piece reacts. A friend of mine recently had a Michael Greenfield acoustic delivered - Sapele back and sides, spruce top. Absolutely monster tone that years ago I would have foolishly assumed could only be achieved with something like Brazilian Rosewood.

Aaaanyway ... someone buy these lovely geetars!!
