Back in the late 1950's when I was first struggling to learn to play flamenco from old 78's, I used to try to sing along with the guitar -trying (vaguely) to copy my favourite cantaor, Rafael Romero.

My singing - like my playing - sounded pretty awfull. But it was an interesting experience, and it did give me an incentive to play sometimes. Anybody else had this kind of experience?

Any reasons why the guitarist shouldn't sing, also?

I can't sing well at all, but I can definitely see the
benefit of learning 'cante' and trying to accompany yourself.
This is especially true for those of us who never have the opportunity
to accompany. I wouldn't perform it, just try to learn to accompany.
I know that Paco Fernandez, guitarist from Triana, sings and is
quite good at it. I'm sure there are many others too.
I've heard Ricardo Marlow sing a few times at parties and he is also
quite good.

I would like to be able to sing flamenco. Not being a native spanish speaker puts me off though. I always feels a bit weird when i hear non native spanish speakers singing flamenco. When i try singing i just sing in english.

At least when you sing and accompany yourself there is no excuse for playing wrong chords[:D]

I sing a lot of flamenco in the car when I´m alone.
