gkoovs -> RE: ANY THOUGHT ON THIS GUITAR? (Oct. 31 2011 4:40:38)

I am not really sure why he is asking so much for that guitar.
He has been posting that guitar for a while now.
I prefer Spanish flamenco guitar. I like the way they sound.
I have about 24 Spanish guitars made by some of the best family in Spain such as Bellido, Diaz, Sanchis, other like Perdo De Miguel, Jose Plazuelo, Jesus Jimenez,
Juan Aguilar, Jose Fernandez, Jose Rodriguez (from Cordoba), Antonio Ariza, Conde A28, Vicente Sanchis, ...
Some of these are for sell.
Let me know if you like any.

Thanks

Michael

I'd NEVER pay that much for a factory guitar.

Could be good, could also not be so good[;)]

JuanDaBomb -> RE: ANY THOUGHT ON THIS GUITAR? (Oct. 31 2011 17:09:03)

Seems like there's some price inflation because it's "rare". Personally, for a beginner's first guitar, I'd pass.

Try checking out http://www.berkeleymusic.com/ They have a couple decent entry level models that I'd prefer over this Yamaha. [:)] Last I read someplace, they're made in Paracho to the store owner's specifications and standards, made by a member of the Huipe family, if I recall correctly.

The same to my friend, How are doing these days?

keith -> RE: ANY THOUGHT ON THIS GUITAR? (Nov. 2 2011 17:23:32)

back in the day yamaha built flamenco guitars and even gave one to paco and photographed him with said guitar (with pegs as i recall). yamaha published a book about their guitars which includes their luthier built classical and flamenco guitars as well as the paco photograph. the nice thing about yamaha is that they did not exploit the photograph and hound paco to the four corners of the earth like a certain person residing in canada.

burlesque--did you contact the guy i mentioned in the p.m. to you? he sent me an e-mail with a couple of youtube presentations. might be worth your while.

The ebay sale ended. Was the guitar a Yamaha CG171SF Flamenco Guitar (Standard) for $1199??[8|]

GuitarVlog -> RE: ANY THOUGHT ON THIS GUITAR? (Nov. 4 2011 2:22:09)

The guitar was offered above its market value.

List price back in 2009 was $3000 so street value would have been about $1800 from a friendly dealer (like mine). I think that was the last year that Yamaha offered the FC Standard from its small-production workshop in Hamamatsu Japan.

Yes, they typically have only a small group of luthiers working on these. It's their custom shop and they did make flamenco guitars for Paco de Lucia three times: once in the 70's, then in 1981 and the last time in 1984.

The last two guitars for Paco were, if I read the model specs correctly, more like classical guitars than flamenco guitars. This was the period after he extensively hung out with John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell (1979 and 1980). Maybe it was his "jazz experimental" stage? Paco once talked about his experience with these two. You can find it on the DVD, "Paco de Lucia: Light and Shade". He had to learn on-the-fly improvisation and spoke about how difficult it was for him at the beginning.

If it were in mint condition, that eBay guitar would sell for about $1100 used. Given the checking on the finish, I think $800 would have been a better offer.

Of course, its true value all depends on how good the guitar sounds to the prospective buyer.

I think GV (above) is pretty much on the money with his prices for this guitar.

"Was the guitar a Yamaha CG171SF Flamenco Guitar (Standard) for $1199??"
That'd be plain silly price, but then again, considering where it was placed ...

Hi Everybody,

This is what I read about the Yamaha Flamenco Standard; it's made in their custom workshop buy one master craftsman. I don't know if that's true. The guitar was introduced back in 2003 and discontinued in 2009. BTW, the seller has the guitar listed locally in San Francisco on Craig's list. And yes, you guys are right the seller is asking way to much.

Hi Guys,

I found the following article on the web:

FC31 Flamenco Guitar from Yamaha
Posted by Harmony Central News on Jan 17, 2003 1:00:00 AM

Yamaha Guitars targets the professional player as well as the serious musical hobbyist with the Winter NAMM 2003 introduction of the FC31 Flamenco Standard guitar, a top-end instrument that pairs Flamenco styling with the workmanship and superior quality of Yamaha's renowned Handcrafted acoustic guitar line.

Constructed with a solid Spruce top and solid Cypress back and sides, the FC31 implements traditional materials that have long been used for the exceptional acoustic qualities of the Flamenco instrument. The African Mahogany neck and Ebony fingerboard boast minimal action that creates a bright sound with a strong attack and should appeal to the Flamenco player--as well as nylon string players who crave a more defined sound.

"With the introduction of the original Flamenco models in 2002, the audience was the entry- and mid-level player in the market for a Flamenco model to add to their cache of instruments," states Joseph Brasler, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. "The FC31 is really aimed at a more serious player. Nothing was overlooked in terms of acoustics or aesthetics to achieve the appearance and expressive sonic qualities of the traditional southern Spanish Guitarra."

Other details of the 12-fret FC31 include a Rosewood bridge, wood bindings, a bone saddle, a highly-detailed mosaic soundhole inlay and gold tuning machines.

The FC31 is currently available at an MSRP of $3,479.99.
