Wheater -> Skype Video Lessons - Can some in the community help me? (Oct. 17 2011 3:54:38)

I have been playing guitar for several years, but I am generally new to flamenco - having only played for a few months. I would like to make sure my general technique is on par with what it should be which picado, rasgueado etc. However, I don't have a flamenco teacher near me that I can take lessons from.

Would someone from the community be willing to do a short video skype call to let me know if I am holding my right hand correctly?

I'd also like to ask a few questions about where to learn music from. I would like to have a volume of songs to play from, but I am stuck with Juan Martin's book for now (which is very nice by the way). I would simply like some variety.

PM me or email me at ericthurt@gmail.com. Thanks!!

In terms of bringing technique up, I'm finding "Traité de Guitare Flamenca Volume 2 Technique de la Guitare Flamenca" by Oscar Herrero and Claude Worms, really useful.

IMO it's best to learn music that you have/can get recordings for not just books with tab, because often I find it's hard to understand the feel of the music if you can't hear it.

There are very good players here that do skype lessons and things like that , Ricardo Marlow would be one that everyone here would recommend.......

Ricardo is a fantastic player and extremely knowledgable, I havent had any skype lessons with him yet, although I was supposed to, but I would still recommend it.. Just getting input from him on your playing is great.

Another thing wich I havent done yet, is to post a video here, the community here knows ALOT and I have the impression that everyone here wants to contribute or help all the others out, wich is fantastic.

There are also video lessons on youtube, by Jose Tanaka etc.

I would also strongly recommend that you watch Rombsix' videos on youtube, he has some videos where he plays slowly to demonstrate what is going on, and also he is a user and great contributor to this forum.

What you also can try is watching some of the pro's playing and try to imitate and learn their falsetas in compas, there are alot of good videos of Paco Pena, that have very good camera angle for this.

There are many places where you can learn falsetas, I think Norman kliman has a very good collection for sale, I think you have to pay a little, but I want to pay soon myself to check out what i can find in there[:D]

Then there is the mel bay site, offers books and some ebooks too!
I have ordered classical guitar and flamenco books there and am happy.

Hope some was helpful! have a nice day!

I give skype lessons. You can sign up through my site. The first 15 minute session is free, perhaps we can address your issues in that short time. Of course if you want further instruction I will have to charge. Directions for sign up are on my website:
