This one goes out to the experienced luthiers on this foro! I'd appreciate Your help!

So after a longer break I started to play gigs again, and I've been invited to play some background music in a wellness center. It may sound strange yet it was very special experience. My problem is that I supposed to play in a larger place that includes a swimming pool, jakuzzis some sauna and so on....that's goes together with steam..

I took my Case-hygrometer with me, and the humidity went from 66 to even 82%, temp. from 23 to 28C.
I know THAT high could be dangerous for my instrument...
My question is how dangerous is that? I'ts clear guitars react to the changes of the humidity, but how fast is that happening? Could damage my guitar in any way?

The gig took about 3,5 hours, and I didn't notice any changes to the body or the neck, soundwise either. a little more buzzing, looser feeling on strings, but no problem with volume or tone.

So I know there are a lot of aspects, and depends on the exact guitar, but to put it this way: Would You take there Your own guitar to play it if You'd been invited to play there regulary (1X every 1-2 weks?)in such circumstances???

I'm interested in this thread and what the response will be. Personally, I wouldn't do the gig - but once you get the advice, you'll know what to do. I'd take a cheaper guitar and play it - however, this is a noisy environment, so cheap may not have the projection.

I wouldnt consider it to be to much of a problem. Prolonged exposure in hi humidity can have some damaging effects like glue joints popping open but that will take a hell of alot longer than 3 hours. Its low humidity that is the cracker!

Thank You Stephen, You really calmed my mind!

neither high humidity nor low humidity by themselves are the problem. It is the CHANGE of humidity suddenly that affects the guitar in a negative way. If you play in high humidity with dry guitar, it will soak it up too quick and become mute. AFter your "wet" gig, if you let your guitar dry too quick, it will crack. So be careful about the changes, make sure you give your guitar some days to adjust.

So I better put in my case-humidifier, right? Thanks Ricardo!
