noemiflamenco -> Finding cheap mikes and amps in London... (Oct. 12 2011 13:42:53)

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone could help me out. I've got to get hold of a couple of good quality mikes and amps for a gig (cheaply) and have no idea where to look. I am completely ignorant about this stuff so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

what are you trying to amplify? your set up depends on what you're trying to mic up.

but in general, for cheap, versatile mics, im sure many people will agree with me that the shure sm57 is the way to go. you dont want to go any cheaper than that. music shops usually have some sort of bundle deal with these mics.

Go to Denmark Street. There are quite a few music shops there and you can get a feel for what's available and at what price. you can also try them out. We used to spend hours in Andys. Nowadays, not being in London we use StudioSpares for most things, trade prices.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!,

Socrates tells me he usually uses a Neumann KM 184 or if not a DPA 4090. I assume these are very expensive..?

We will be amplifying the singer and guitarist.
