and I don't want to overwhelm her with anything crazy. What should I teach her?

[;)]

Note: She has no flamenco experience, but good on rhythm and has relativly good music background (she played trumpet in high school for 4 years)

Farruca is pretty good for beginners.
I typically use the one from the Juan Martin book for teaching.

Start with chords only, no falsetas. Decide which falseta will be easiest for her.
Teach her the falsetta and have her play chord material, falseta, chord material.

Gradually build it up piece by piece. My flamenco mentor (a dance teacher) takes this approach with her students.
Teach how to start, then how to end. After that, fill in the middle. That way the student can always play some sort of complete palo.

yes you should invite her and teach her the farruca. Maybe she then ask you to dance the farruca. Well, we all know what will happen after that [:D]

Seriously, Kenzo, just light a bunch of candles and put on some Ottmar Liebert.

to be serious, always start with the solea. this palo really takes care of everything for beginners; compas, phrygian mode, the flamenco feeling. besides that, solea sounds very cool quite easily. for example when you do just Am G F in compas, its like wow. and it has a lot of easy cool falsettas for beginners.
It's a bit hard to master the aire of this palo in the beginning thou, but just listen to a solea of for example enrique morente at the beginning of the lesson.

try the solea, guaranteed succes. sorry for my silly reply of yesterday. good luck
