hey folks, I guess I've overused my fingering hand, and wrist is getting sore. 3 hours playing on both sat and sunday started it. Searched online and found a place that sells a pair of wrist support straps for $20. Looks legit...I figured what the hell, and ordered. it is miserable not being able to play when you want to, so if it works its worth it at any cost. I will let you know if they are worthy. Has anyone else used these? The site is called newgrip.

I haven't used these. I have left (fretting hand) wrist pain which I attribute mostly to a synovial cyst (or ganglion cyst) on the dorsal part of my wrist. It is quite annoying and I can't play sitting cross legged anymore because of the angle I have to have my wrist in while playing that way, so I've been trying to move to traditional position. I was thinking of getting the cyst surgically removed, but now that you brought this up (and I have a wrist band I once got in the past and didn't use much), I'm going to try my wrist band (not a NewGrip one, though) for a few days and see if it helps. Maybe I can try to avoid getting surgery.

Let us know if the NewGrip wrist supports help you.

I was probably predisposed, and the playing brought it out...

My mom has a cyst in her knee, its going away this wednesday.

I think surgery in the hand or wrist is scary for any musician though..

I dont know why but myself i feel like tiger balm helps, I notice my forearms ans hands and stuff have started to become very very muscular so i just treat any pain like i did when i was working out and even eating healthy.

My right wrist used to be a problem.. only the fingers left, decided to try reconstructive surgery.

Curiously, were you playing 3 hours on Saturday and Sunday but significantly less than that (or not at all) during the rest of the week? If so, then I'm not surprised you injured your wrist (which sucks). Why not give your wrist a break and then, when you start back, practice more consistently on a daily basis to gradually build up strength?

I usually play about 1 1/2 hr a day. I think its just the extra stretching practicing new things. I decided to stop playing for a few days like you said. I will wait for the wrist things. At least my boss will be happy, I will spend more time at work![:@]

I have been using the wrist supports for a couple weeks now, and overall I think they are beneficial. I took 5 days off to let sprain go away while waiting for them. If they are put on real tight they kind of limit the amount you can open your hand (because forearm gets bigger). Its definitely easier than wrapping wrist up in ace bandage.
