Guest -> flamenco guitar on the web (Apr. 28 2005 18:50:44)

Has anyone seen this offer? It's in my budget (wish I had $5000 to spend on a guitar, but I play, not collect). Looks quite nice, but always a guess when buying without playing...

http://www.ole-flamenco.com/English/Guitar_Store_E/Flamenco_Guitars/flamenco_guitars.htm

Looking for feedback with anyone that has experience with this maker...

Gracias

Hi

I never played a Sanchis Carpio, but i heared good things about them.
Also the price is good, and if you like it, you have clavijas!

Also i found this info on their site:

Can I return the articles, if I do not like it ?
You can send us back the articles within 7 days after you have received the articles. Please contact us with email and we will give you the instructions. Olé Flamenco does not pay the shipping costs for the return package.

I am sure some guys over here play Carpio, so perhaps they will give you some feedback.

Peter

The Primera Especial Carpio is equivalent in looks , playability and sound to a 6000 euro Conde: I have played them side by side.

However this guitar is not a Primera Especial and you cannot expect it to sound like one. However Carpios are well constructed and sound good. At this price it would be difficult to suggest a better guitar.

Have you thought of contacting Sanchez Carpio directly? They might be willing to select a good instrument in your range and send it to you.

Pdl guitars are made by Vicente Carillo, not Carpio.

Looking at the makers website, and sent an E mail...Problem is, shipping from Spain is like $350 for a guitar!!! It's unreal. Ole-Flamenco told me once, with the amount he ships, like $120.00... So if I HAD to return it, maybe I can use his account, because it would cost me like $350 on my own!!

I don't understand why this stuff is soooo expensive.

Thanks guys

Ricardo -> RE: flamenco guitar on the web (Apr. 29 2005 15:51:17)

My student got the same guitar (Carpio 2F), (maybe nicer actually, would have to compare) from Tom at La Falseta. Much easier to deal with in terms of shipping, plus he does the job of checking it out first before sending it. Price is comparable ($1550?) but includes the tax/case and stuff. I HIGHLY recommend it over Ole-flamenco.

I have the Conde A26, and you would be rather surprised like I was! The material is lower quality, the feel a little different, but the sound? Maybe my student got "lucky". And the newer Condes I have tried that are in the 6000 price range, are not Carpios, at least they feel and sound totally different (inferior IMO).

My son and I have Ricardo Sanchis Carpio 1 AF extras. Our son got his from Tom at La Falseta. I have played several 2F's and they have a good sound and are very nice to play.

Santito -> RE: flamenco guitar on the web (Apr. 29 2005 23:31:53)

I received a Sanchis Carpio 2F from Ole-Flamenco yesterday (!) after getting a bit of advice from this site. It's not the 'Clavijas' one but I imagine the pegs must be the only difference.
I ordered on the 22nd April (via PayPal) and received it on the 28th. Total cost was 910,90 EUR (which included shipping to England) (about 20 EUR, I think). The price included a hard case, strap (hey, I'll find some use for it) and a calendar thrown in too.
The guitar itself - though I should say I've never played another flamenco one to compare - is beautiful. Very nicely made, really responsive and with a great tone.
So I can only recommend Sanchis Carpio and Ole-Flamenco.
All the best.

El Santito

I ordered mine from Ole-flameno too.
It took almost one month to arrive and it was not very well packed. Te guitar also has some imperfections (saw marks on the fretboard etc.)
It is my first flamenco guitar and so I cannot compare to others (only with my classical guitar [&:]); anyway, it has a good sound and playability but I defenetly would not advise to buy from Ole-flamenco.You can get cheaper elsewhere

frhout -> RE: flamenco guitar on the web (May 3 2005 20:31:28)

Ole Flamenco's Matthias Hafner suggested a Carpio but I bought a Rafael Romero 120 negra instead and paid by IBAN (only available in Europe) as there is a less commission than credit card or Paypal. I faxed the receipt to the shop and he shipped the guitar straightaway which I received within 5 days (that's from Germany to France). It was 90 euros cheaper than the maker himself, with a case, calendar and I asked for a set of Luthier strings as well. I'm glad. I would recommend Ole Flamenco. He might have some mp3 files for you. I think Carpio doesn't do retail, the guitars may be under the name of Hermanos Sanchis Lopez. Ole Flamenco has a better choice of guitars than a lot of shops in Spain, although not as good as other shops in USA.

I ordered a cejilla from them last night and Matthias Hafner told me that they are having a promotion for Oscar Herrero's books and DVDs for 25 euros each instead of thirty something to forty. I don't have anything by Herrero but some members may be interested.

Ramón -> RE: flamenco guitar on the web (May 4 2005 3:43:24)

Been looking at an early 1980's Sanchis Carpio 3F - which is lower than the guitar above being discussed. Anyone have any experience with this model, and being older, is it still a lower end guitar, or were things still a little more handmade then?

Also, saw this:

http://www.american-guitar-center.com/flamenco-carlos.jpg

That's a cutaway, offered on American Guitar Center in Stuttgart (??). That's a cutaway, but they've offered a standard blanca at $2000 with pegs (the new mechanical pegs)....hmmmm

Thanks,

R

Anyone have any experience with Jeff Sigurdson's flamencos out of BC, Canada??

Guest -> RE: flamenco guitar on the web (May 4 2005 7:17:43)

I've repaired a Vicente Sanchis. I think it was a 3F. The sound was OK. Not very loud and the wood was very poor quality.

Patrick -> RE: flamenco guitar on the web (May 4 2005 17:52:27)

Ramon,

I own a 2004 Sigurdson East Indian negra. Jeff builds a very good guitar for the money; certainly not world class, but a great value. Mine is one of his higher end guitars with German spruce and French polished top.

A lot of his lower end stuff is being sold on Ebay. In no way can you compare these to the one I have. Personally, I think he is shooting himself in the foot by turning out a bunch of low-end guitars, but that's a business decision he's made.
