britguy -> Converting traditional wooden friction pegs to geared pegs??? (Sep. 7 2011 22:24:26)

I'm having trouble getting really accurate tuning with my peg-head Castillo negra. I'm wondering if converting it to those newer geared pegs might help. Does this sound like a good idea, or what?

What's involved in converting a traditional wooden-peg head to geared pegs. What do they cost, and where do you get them?

Is this something I should consider doing myself, or do I need a professional luthier, and (approximately) what might the charge be.?

Any opinions here?

You should probably post this in the Lutherie section. I'm sure someone will give you some good advice on how to proceed. It may just require refitting your pegs to get a more consistent tuning and lockup.
