Harry -> Mechanical Metronome? (Sep. 6 2011 13:08:52)

Does anyone else here work with a Wittner style metronome or am I a dinosaur here?

I have the impression it is better to practice with this type of tick and I like the organic sound of this type of metronome. Also the fact that it is made out of wood mostly.

I'd prefer one of those as well. I hate the beeping type of annoyance devices...er metronome.

I have one of these and it gets lot's of use. Closest thing to an organic sound you can get outside of a mobile app.

The problem is when they wind down they are not keeping good time. (unless wittner is the kind you plug in?) Digital ones are the best. Dont' understand why folks are so worried about sound of the thing, it is just reference for time.

I'd rather Gilbert Godfrey saying 'beep' each time instead of a electronic one. [8D]

It's not just the sound but the entire aesthetic of the thing. It is made of wood, it is a mechanism not an electronic machine. Also, musicians have used this for centuries just fine no? I like the simplicity of it as well. I guess there aren't many people who use these metronomes anymore. Still, I notice they still sell them at music stores for boring Luddites like myself.

No man. You can't groove with those things as they wind down. They suck. But they look cool sitting on a piano.

I am just giving a hard time, but honestly you need the thing to stay constant to do serious work.
