In constructing a Flamenco Guitar, I know that the neck is shimmed upward a small amount on the building board to put yourself in the ballpark for setting the action of the guitar. I understand the criticality of this step, as it is the basis for the playability of the guitar.
How do you determine how much to shim the neck- and if you shim the neck, that is going to create an angle between the neck blank and the soundboard. Is the part of the neck common with the soundboard sanded at that angle so it glues to the soundboard flat? I don't quite understand this relationship.
Any help explaining- or a picture or sketch would be very helpful, as I'm very much a visual learner!
Thanks!
Wes

Use the search function as this topic has been covered several times so you will have plenty to read. Good luck

Good suggestion, Sean- Thanks. I should have thought of trying to search the term "Neck Angle" or similar before posing the question.

make sure you take into account the height of the bridge, the action you want to achieve and the thickness of the fretboard INCLUDING the fret height, that you are planning to use.

I've seen people forgetting to include the height of the fret on electric guitars and steelstring acoustics and mess up their neck angle this way

I havent done neck angles on flamenco guitars yet, but I have on steelstring acoustics and electric guitars, and making a 1 mm mistake can sometimes result in a setup disaster.
