Stanislav1 -> New member introduction (Aug. 5 2011 16:52:11)

Hi all,

I am new here. My name is Stan.

I have been playing guitar all my life. In a recent couple of years I have discovered that Flamenco is not exactly represented by Al Dimeola and Pop/Jazz Players playing nylon string guitars with plectrum over the Rumba beat.

My goal is to study everything I can about the authentic flamenco.

I am looking to meet new friends, learn from those who are ahead of me and share my own experiences.

Cheers,
Stan

Welcome man! This is a pretty great foro. As I'm sure you'll see people post all kinds of great resources I probably never would have otherwise found out about.

Yes, throw away the pick!!! (Well, until you switch to playing other styles of guitar you enjoy). But, yeah, there's something really satisfying about playing with an open hand, and part of it is the multiple ways an open hand technique allows you to attack the guitar.

Welcome to the foro!

Gracias amigos! Thank you for the warm welcome!

I would be very interested to find a group in Toronto area that works with dancers and watch the rehearsal to pick up the compas.

kudo -> RE: New member introduction (Aug. 8 2011 14:47:17)

if you are looking for a flamenco dance school in Toronto, so that you can practice accompanying the dancers and learning the compas, there are 2 schools that I know of:
http://www.arteflamenco.com/about.shtml

http://www.carmenromero.ca/school.html

also if you want to learn guitar, you should contact the spanish flamenco guitarist:
Jose Vega Jurado (NiƱo del Puente) , who lives in Toronto.
contact him through facebook
