Last year I got participate in a flamenco show and capture this video of what happens backstage as far a preperation, stage freight and performers trying to get rid of nerves.

Cafe De Chinitas

You must be joking man...??

I spent a lot of time at Cafe de Chinitas and it looks nothing like that!

It's got a tiny stage and no rehearsal room at the back.

Looks like this...

Serranito played there as a regular, but basically it was cuadro flamenco with bored women dancers doing a routine until about midnight or earlier.

It was basically a high class restaurant with high class prices IMO.

I got in for free since I knew someone who worked there, otherwise it would have cost me a week's basic living allowance in Madrid just to buy a rum and coke or the minimum drink (entrada).

The the old diehards would come out and have their own party at about 1.00am after the "diners" had all gone home and there was maybe 10 to 20 of an audience.... (mainly foreigners).

And go on till 3-4 in the morning! Some terrific stuff!

Las Brujas across the street a bit was WAY better (and cheaper) with folk like Marote etc who just gave it hell!

(Less staged performances and polite manners and más jaleo y bronca..[:D])

cheers,

Ron
