Is it an inflamation ?

I had a little redness under my thumb that i noticed well when i touched things and stuff but it went away by itself after a while, i just used it a little less for a while..

yes i think it is

oh that's a relief, its nothing major atm and its not too painful, just a little discomfort but I just dont want this to be the beginning of something worst...i became aware of it about 1 week now

its weird, its not in any place where you could get some dirt in there and infect it or anywhere where you could have reached and irritated it with anything...its in the middle of the meaty part of my thumb under the nail...nothing could reach there

Post a photo man. Is it actually under the nail bed or the free edge of the nail?

odinz -> RE: Sore under the thumb nail..anyone ever had this ? (Jun. 20 2011 14:19:17)

Maybe it is a preassure damage, like blunt trauma from overuse, maybe you slept on your thumb?

think it also is smart to post a photo though, and be careful playing for a while

Every few months one of my left hand nails seperates from the nail bed which means lots of pain while playing. Can result in bloody strings. I always ignore it, as it disappears after some days.

But it is strange to see how suddenly the connection between nail and nail bed ends about 3mm before it should. It regenerates fast though.

Maybe your Nail was too short? That could have caused an irritation.

Your nail looks to be in good condition and generally a healthy colour. Your nail wont fall off. Its most probably some bruising under the nail bed. It should darken slightly and grow out in the next couple of weeks.
Its highly unlikely to be due to emboli from subacute bacterial endocarditis as Ramzi was thinking. If you have any kind of fever or take intravenous drugs then its a symptom that needs checking out by a doctor. Most likely you banged you hand against something after drinking several bottles of your favorite cerveza.

Flo,

Try and think back where your thumb has been in the last couple of weeks. [;)]

cheers,

Ron

Mark: are you a medical doctor? If so, an MD or a DO? PM me the details if that is the case. I'm interested to know...

Cheers!

This looks quite what one can get from alzapúa. Especially when the nail has become a bit thinner over time.

At least I have had kind of light versions of this, with the thumb hurting a bit for a couple of days.
Also observed that there can occure grooves at times, obviously marks from the bass strings which will grow out though.

A little ache that went away quickly and motivated me to try and introduce more slide into the alzapúa.

It looks like you slamed it in a door.
I get some pain where the nail meets the flesh.I had a hideous nail infection but it caused a dark color and seperation.
I use something i got in a nail supply store and the main ingredient is citrus extract.Seems to work but i'm thinking some lemon juice might be a substitute.

Oh, come on, it's obviously symptomatic of an STD. I could've sworn I saw something like this in the nasty pictures they showed us in 8th grade gym class. Ron M. was definitely on the right track with his first comment. [;)]

machopicasso -> RE: Sore under the thumb nail..anyone ever had this ? (Jun. 22 2011 10:21:41)

Well, I'm not a medical professional, or anything. But, if you're really concerned about it, then keep it clean and be attentive to any movement/activity which either causes discomfort or seems to aggravate it. If it gets worse, then you might want to see a professional. Good luck.
