I really want to know what G string do you use for steadiness and clearance. i dont like D' Addarios Composite third. I'm not a big fan of this one.

I like La Bella blacks, but i think that the G is too soft for me.

Hi,
If you are not happy with a generic 3d you may try D'Addario's Titanium. Actually on one of my guitar I use Titanium E and B and have recently added a composite G. It sounds nice but I can definitely hear a subtle transition from blue to coffee so probably will be back to Titaium for now.

the last two times that I bought La Bella I had problems with the trebles [&:].. First set I bought the G string was tuned on he first 5 frets and from there on for some estrange reason it wasn't tuning. Then I thought "ok probably I had the bad luck of getting a set of La Bella with defects"... so I bought a SECOND one and this time the same thing happened!! but with the B string!!

Now for one of my guitars I use Hannabach Silver 200 Set 900.. they are expensive but they last wayyyyy longer than the usual strings, so at the end is the same thing[;)]

Try Savarez White Nylon Wound third string. Strings By Mail sells it as a single string if you want.

Έλα μεγάλε,

I know that many people will say that certain strings are ideal for certain guitars but personally I have found Royal Classics are the best for any guitar. So give them a try.

Which Savarez exactly? [8D]

Ramon Amira -> RE: Any good G string? (except D' Addario Composite) (Jun. 20 2011 14:57:19)

It's under "Specialty Singles." Here is a direct link:

http://www.stringsbymail.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_62_147_465

They also make the same wound nylon for the second and first strings. Here is a copy of a post of mine on the classical guitar forum some time ago.

"For years I have been meaning to try a wound third string, but never got around to it. Then about two years ago I finally tried a silver wound third string by Savarez. I wasn’t wild about it, probably because there was too much contrast in sound to the second string.

I recently discovered that Savarez makes a Nylon wound third, which makes more sense, being closer in sound to a traditional non-wound treble string. So I put in on, and immediately liked the sound, but still there was too much contrast in sound to the second.

But Aha! Now Savarez makes an entire set of White Nylon Wound strings. I just put a set on, and all I can say is I am a happy camper. For one, I like thick trebles, and, being wound, these trebles are fat. Also, the texture of a wound string gives you great control and touch. And with all three trebles being wound you not only get a consistent sound and feel in the trebles, but with all six strings being wound you get a consistent feel across all the strings, with no sense of "transition" from bass to treble. Then there is the sound – extremely full-bodied, much more so than a non-wound treble can give.

Like all string discussions, these might not be for everyone, and I'm sure some players will even say they hate them. That's to be expected, and is fully understandable, but I'm equally sure that some players will be in for a revelation. One thing is certain – the sound of these trebles is definitely unlike any trebles anyone has ever played, unless some other manufacturer makes wound trebles for all three. I would recommend at least trying them out, and seeing for yourself."

There are also some cons to these trebles, which I'll tell you about if you don't want to try for yourself.

The only thing that i have a doubt is that they're high tension. But i will try them. Thanks a lot! [:D]

Ron.M -> RE: Any good G string? (except D' Addario Composite) (Jun. 20 2011 15:37:47)

gounaro,

Yeah, they are high tension (thicker string = higher tension for same pitch).

I have a few Savarez white nylon wound G's and B's (3rd & 2nd) that I don't need. (The 1st E is just the usual plain nylon)

PM me your address and I'll send you a wound G & B to try in case you have any probs getting them.

cheers,

Ron

One thing that annoys me with Salvarez is that you have to keep tuning them for as long as they last.

If you play your guitar regularly, especially beating a lot of rasqueados, then you will be tuning all the time as well - not matter what kind of string you use...LOL

Maybe an Aquila Alabastro G string will do the job!

I think that i read some reviews here that they're not so special for their price...

elgreco -> RE: Any good G string? (except D' Addario Composite) (Jun. 22 2011 2:17:58)

That is BS in my opinion and I have converted Mr Malakka into using RCs too. Just buy a full set once and let me know. The GBEs do not need replacing often anyways. If you think they are not worth the money just get some new EADs. String need some tuning here and there but the Salvarez need A LOT of TUNING ALL THE TIME and I did not notice any special kind of sound coming out of them.

Οk, i'll try them once, but i wonder if i want to buy a bass set where will i get them. Cause stringsbymail do not sell them separately.

Ricardo -> RE: Any good G string? (except D' Addario Composite) (Jun. 22 2011 16:05:04)

I never had such a big deal problem as most do with the G string. Only thing I say is I avoid the wound or bumpy trebles, they sound strange to me.

Enjoying the Hannabach Titanyl G
made a big difference on my guitar. really noticeable
loud brilliant midrange tone.
best sounding after trying most strings for my guitar...
basses are interesting as well
after a week of 3 gigs, with capo on 2, 3 or 6 at regular intervals still no obvious sign of pitting....never seen that before. flexible plastic and silver alloyed wire cores...

gounaro -> RE: Any good G string? (except D' Addario Composite) (Jun. 28 2011 22:19:10)

I'll give a shot to this Hannabach... [;)]
