Hombre con Guitarra -> Need help with thumbnail (Jun. 16 2011 17:06:46)

Hi! I don`t have any problems with shaping fingernail except the thumb. I don`t know what should i do with it. I am not beginner in playing guitar (But in flamenco yes) but i still dont know how to shape it correctly. I would be grateful for any help.

even when you know how to shape the thumbnail. it always stays a pain.

for me my nail grows vertically in a curve (downwards) and horizontally sidewards (see pic).

What I always do is to shape it flat first then make the left corner go down. And because it grows left and right as well, I need to take nail off from the sides. But this last one could not be in your case

I don't know if this is helpful

Hi! I agree with Rmn, in my opinion the thumb nail have to be a little bit shorter in the left side ( if you are looking at it with your palm facing the floor). If i dont do this what I hate is that my nail gets stuck in the strings while doing the abanico.

Cheers

Actually, i am left handed so it is shorter on the left side.

I was about to say that it looked ok for a leftie [:D]

Hombre con Guitarra -> RE: Need help with thumbnail (Jun. 17 2011 17:16:59)

But actually it sounds terrible. Doesn`t it too short or too much cut from the left?

rodrigovalt -> RE: Need help with thumbnail (Jun. 17 2011 23:59:25)

its ok if you are a lefty, the reason of the terrible sound that you mention is that your nail is to short on your right side, so you are playing the strings mostly with your fingertip. It's good to try to play the strings with nail and fingertip, this way you will get a balanced sound [;)].... it wont be too bright or opaque but exactly the sound that you want :D

look at this picture, (for lefties) hope it helps....
