Hi there!

About 10 years ago, I heared some rumours of a fretless flamenco guitar ( like a violin)

I never had the chance of played on one. And in a while I heared nothing more about it.

I always regretted it I never played on it. Have you guys ever heared of it, or played on one?

Is it perhaps a nice experiment for a builder?

Should it be playable? Some of us can play with their eyes closed, I am sure of it!!!

So, do we really need fret's ???

Regards, Peter.

I sure as hell need them. [:)] Think about this: when you play a chord your fretting fingers can be anywhere within the fret because the tone that is produced is where the fret wire contacts the string, not where your finger is within the fret. If you don't have frets the tone is going to be precisely where your finger/s stops the string. Now play a chord and see if your fingers are all at the exact same place within each fret. I bet they're not. I think it would be extremely difficult to play chords on a fretless guitar.

That's my 2 cents worth.

Phil

Phil;

Think of the "joy" of playing or listening to the micro tones! [:)] Try to play the same thing twice!

Peter;

I have never played a fretless guitar.

If you go to google.com and insert fretless guitar you get over 10,000 returns.

Hi Peter,
I have an album by a fretless guitar player called Erkan Ogur, a Turkish guy.
It's one of my favourites!

I've posted a sample track here...

Also another beautiful piece.. (nuevo Turkish? LOL!)

You can read an interview with him at....

Yeah, I agree with Phil, you would have to completely re-learn all your left hand fingering as the intonation would be completely out.

Does have it's advantages though....like ZERO action!

LOL!

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the samples!

very beautiful music!

And for Thomas, well, enough to search for me now.

And Phil, strainge enough didn't I think of playing shord's. That is really going to get a problem I think.

Well, thanks for your contributions!!

regards, Peter.
