Andy Culpepper -> New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 0:24:06)

Just wanted to post a little demo I made with my guitar #13 - Spruce top, Oregon Myrtle back and sides and planetary pegs.
The bracing is my new pattern with a few tweaks.

Nice stuff Andy, post a few pics for us

Gimar Yestra -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 0:49:53)

awesome guitar! I'd love to see some detailed pictures

thanks guys. The new owner will probably post some pictures (and a much better sound clip hopefully) but here's a couple.

Very beautiful [:)] May I ask: what kind of wood are the bindings? They complement the side and back quite nicely. Tonewise, how would you say Oregon Myrtle compares to cypress? [8|]

Anders Eliasson -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 7:32:41)

Its looks and sounds like a very nice guitar. Very well build. Taste is personal and I personally dont like the Myrtle to much. But thats just me. And maybe if I had acces to it, I would build with it and like the look of it as well.[:D]

Gimar Yestra -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 9:38:32)

stunning guitar man!

KMMI77 -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 11:44:07)

Sounds very powerful when you dig in. Are you happy with it? Did the changes you made to the bracing have the effect you were hoping for?

Guitarproject -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 12:16:47)

Wonderful,bright sound and very nice guitar ! [;)][:D][:D][:D]

Andy Culpepper -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 20:25:10)

JuanDaBomb: Thank you. The bindings are bloodwood with maple/bloodwood purfling.
This guitar doesn't sound like any of the cypress guitars I've made. It has a certain presence and "edge" to the sound. Kind of a warm, slightly "distorted" cedary kind of sound. And it projects sound *really* well I think, to the point that the guitar sounds better in some ways from the "audience" than from the driver's seat. Only time I've ever slightly regretted not putting a soundport in a guitar [;)]

Thanks Anders! I have to say I'm mostly a Cypress/Rosewood guy personally but it was interesting to work with something new.

Thanks Gimar.

Kris: I like the guitar a lot. I'm still developing this pattern as far as fine tuning of how the braces are shaped/what size they are but I'm definitely moving closer towards my "ideal" sound and feel.

Thanks a lot Guitarproject!

Sean -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 22:00:47)

The real important question here is did you sneeze a lot making this one? lol

Andy Culpepper -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 22:26:15)

haha why? I always sneeze a lot.. that's why I'm trying to eliminate sandpaper from my building process as much as possible [:)]

Sean -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 10 2011 22:37:42)

Myrtle is also called pepper wood lol.
I agree, cabinet scrapers rule.

at_leo_87 -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 11 2011 0:55:39)

the best part about this guitar is that it's going to be mine! [;)]

i really like this shot.

Great guitar, like the back of it.
#13 already?

Congrats Anthony!

Rmn -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 11 2011 12:44:10)

wow, looks/sounds amazing. I would be interested in this kind of guitar too. I am looking for a builder, but I have to save some money still.

Great job!

Andy Culpepper -> RE: New guitar - Spruce/Myrtle (Jun. 11 2011 16:36:07)

You could call the guitar "Dr. Pepper"
With the spruce top I guess it would be "salt and pepper" [:)]
