Harry -> Camaron and Tomatito (Jun. 2 2011 4:12:55)

I have never seen this footage, but it is pretty great. There is a ton of good stuff courtesy of this great archivist so check out his channel. Notice Tomatito is playing the Conde Negra. Surprising.

Hi Adam.

This must be one of my all time favourite Cameron videos.

Ramon de Algeciras is just absolutely superb here IMO.

That's how I dream of playing one day, but I know it's impossible.

That's my idea of perfection.

Maybe in the afterlife eh?...[8|]

cheers,

Ron

Not shown (to the right):
García Lorca's "Poeta en Nueva York," Shakespeare's sonnets, Leonard Cohen's "Book of Longing," and a book of Plato's dialogues. I figured you might like that [;)]
(Further to the right: A flask, and three more bottles of sherry.)

You are not wrong, my friend [;)] (And on the left, beyond the Montecristo memorial...a tin of Dunhill's London Mixture?)

It just keeps getting better!

The Classic of the classics
know the meaning of the lyric but impossible to feel this not beeing a gipsie

Yo no puedo aguantarme
Y ni vivir de esta manera
Porque yo no puedo, porque yo no quiero, ni aunque Dios lo quiera
Porque ya no puedo ay, porque yo no puedo ay, porque yo no puedo vivir sin ella.
Soy Gitano y vengo a tu casamiento,
c partirme la camisa,
La camisita que tengo,
Yo soy Gitano y vengo a tu casamiento,
c partirme la camisa, que ellos tiñieron.
cy me retiro,
Del esparto yo me aparto,
cy que te lo digo me retiro,
En el sarmiento me arrepiento,
De haberte querio tanto,
cy que te lo digo me retiro,
Soy Gitano y vengo a tu casamiento,
c partirme la camisa,
La camisita que tengo,
Yo soy Gitano y vengo a tu casamiento,
Me parto la camisita, la camisita que tengo.
Y a mi me gusta saborear la hierba, la hierba buena,
Un cante por soleá,
Un voz quebrada y serena,
Una guitarra y tus ojos,
cy al ladito de una candela
Soy Gitano y vengo a tu casamiento,
c partirme la camisa,
La camisita que tengo,
Yo soy Gitano y vengo a tu casamiento,
Y a mi me gusta saborear la hierba, la hierba buena,
Un cante por soleá,
Un voz quebrada y serena,
Una guitarra y tus ojos,
cy al ladito de una candela,
Yo soy Gitano y vengo a tu casamiento,
c partirme la camisa,
La camisita que tengo,
Yo soy Gitano yo vengo a tu casamiento,
c partirme la camisa,
Que es la unica que tengo.

Vicente Amigo composed this song….he is a payo. His contribution and involvment with this project put him on the map.

very nice memory, dont know if he composed the instrumental and or the lyrics , but it doesnt seem to be Writen (the lyrics) by a Gadjo , but a gadjo can write with someone gipsy like the two other :)

VICENTE AMIGO, Gajo, real name Vicente Girol, composed the SONG, meaning the whole song, melody, lyrics etc. He is not singing about a Pañuelo up a virgin daughter hoo hah, so there is no really problem with him creating those lyrics, for which he knew in advance, Camaron was going to sing. He also writes lyrics for El Pele, Remedios Amaya, and Jose Merce. One clue is he also sneaks in some line about the guitar. One of his greatest works for cante (lyrics and melodies) is del Amanecer for Jose Merce. His lyrics always have the gypsy perspective. Also, in case you just are finding out now, all the Payo cantaores, sing from the gitano perspective, including first person letras involving gitanas. My first experience accompanying Alborea (which IS about the bride hoo ha), was with a very old Payo cantaor from Malaga. If it were an issue, there is no way that old man would have done that.
