Funny that you should mention that as I was just looking at changing my own someday. However if you think of using Ebony I think you will be dissapointed , especially with the treble end, it may not transmit as well as you want it to. Remember a violin is a very different animal as the note does not decay as long as you keep pushing that bow along it will keep on vibrating,,,,so ebony , OK I was thinking of experimenting with TUSQ or even ivory, or marble now that would be interesting... After looking at them all it seems by general consensus of opinion Bone is best, and then you can have bleached and unbleached, and 3rd string compensated,,,,,, I really dont know, I am not a luthier, but bone seems best ,,, my 2 cents....
