Has anyone ever tried putting a ebony nut and saddle on their guitar? I got the idea after my friend told me his violin nut and saddle is made of ebony so I got a bit curious. I think I am going to use the scrap from my fingerboard to make some. I wonder how big of an impact it will have on the sound

true its used on the violin but its a bit soft for the tone. The violin needs a little dampening but the guitar needs all it can get to brighten the sound and provide a good transmission of energy to the soundboard.

I don't know about ebony, but I've seen cocobolo used.

Funny that you should mention that as I was just looking at changing my own someday. However if you think of using Ebony I think you will be dissapointed , especially with the treble end, it may not transmit as well as you want it to.
Remember a violin is a very different animal as the note does not decay as long as you keep pushing that bow along it will keep on vibrating,,,,so ebony , OK
I was thinking of experimenting with TUSQ or even ivory, or marble now that would be interesting...
After looking at them all it seems by general consensus of opinion Bone is best, and then you can have bleached and unbleached, and 3rd string compensated,,,,,,
I really dont know, I am not a luthier, but bone seems best ,,, my 2 cents....
