Hi Anders,
My first job after i finished high school was as an apprentice boat builder. I was fortunate enough to work on two timber 60 ft catamarans and see the boats develop from the lofting stage until the launch.
It took about 18 workers two years to complete the boats. I spent most of my time fiberglassing, longboard sanding, mixing and applying huge amounts of cabosil and micro balloons and eventually decided to get away from it. The sheet metal factory building had no extraction fans and temperatures reached 50ºc inside during summer. It was no fun wearing all the protective gear and working in those conditions grinding glass inside the hull all day.
Anyway what your doing here looks like a lot of fun. Are you tempted to go a bit bigger?
I worked on only one small racing skiff that was ordered by fiberglass international. The boat was a prototype at that time using a foam core and carbon fiber. The finished boat weighed only 26 kg. But these small timber craft have much more character.
