couldn't see the pics (you have to log on) but that's one cool hobby, Anders - would you take Nimbus on a boat like this?

Ok, sorry about the login thing. I didn´t know. I´ll post a few photos here when I have something to show.

Nimbus... Of course. He goes where I go. He´s an very good swimmer and sometimes when in the canoe, he swimms besides the canoe while I paddle.

Hi Anders,

My first job after i finished high school was as an apprentice boat builder. I was fortunate enough to work on two timber 60 ft catamarans and see the boats develop from the lofting stage until the launch.

It took about 18 workers two years to complete the boats. I spent most of my time fiberglassing, longboard sanding, mixing and applying huge amounts of cabosil and micro balloons and eventually decided to get away from it. The sheet metal factory building had no extraction fans and temperatures reached 50ºc inside during summer. It was no fun wearing all the protective gear and working in those conditions grinding glass inside the hull all day.

Anyway what your doing here looks like a lot of fun. Are you tempted to go a bit bigger?

I worked on only one small racing skiff that was ordered by fiberglass international. The boat was a prototype at that time using a foam core and carbon fiber. The finished boat weighed only 26 kg. But these small timber craft have much more character.

Looking good Anders![:)]
Looks like a sturdy build too, i bet it will fare well on the waves!

You know, i was thinking, how about you build a byrding and we can set sail with our savage beerdrinking viking crew and pillage sea shells along the beaches of spain [:D]

I´m not tempted to go bigger for now.

Then I would have to register the boat and in Spain it means a huge amount of contact with burocracy and a lot of money wasted on the same.[:'(]
Besides, building small is fun. If I get more serious about rowing, I might build a longer and more narrow skiff or gig. Small open rowing boats are some of the prettiest creations that man has ever made

Odinz.

Sailing in Spain really sucks major. Its 1000 times better to sail in Scandinavia. besides, I´m not a savage beerdrinker. I like carrot juice.[sm=tongue.gif]
