Sr. Martins -> Low action, less bass (the "tubby" kind)? (Apr. 18 2011 21:12:44)

Hi!

Ive been working the setup of my flamenco guitar that I bought on April 1st, nut, saddle and yesterday... truss rod.

Yes, this one has a truss rod and I decided to twist it a bit so that the neck would be perfectly flat, zero relief. To my amazement, it seems that these guitars come from the factory without tension on the truss rod so it was kinda loose.

I immediately could tell the difference even before the neck started to get straight. The sound was a lot tighter and the bass (the "tubby" kind of bass which annoyed me like hell) was gone. Today I turned the rod a bit more to the point where it was too much and then backed of a little.

With the neck perfectly flat I have a really low action, a bit of buzz (I have to adjust the saddle now), no muddy bass and a bit less volume & harmonics.

This is the "dry sound" that turned me into flamenco guitars and Iam happy that this guitar has a truss rod and gave me the option to have a perfect zero relief which I like a lot for my style of playing [:D]
