Welcome aboard! Good to see you over here. How do you like the environment?

eslastra -> RE: Eddie (Jul. 13 2003 3:35:17)

Thanks Tom. So far so good, I like it. Lots of good features to get used to.

The only trouble I'm having is that I have to turn off my firewall to get logged in. I tried the suggestions they gave to change my settings, but still can't get it to work. I'm using Norton Personal Firewall.

Escribano -> RE: Eddie (Jul. 13 2003 10:38:29)

Eddie, that doesn't sound right. What is it about this site that the firewall objects to? I can probably fix it if it is a server issue but it still sounds odd.

Eddie;

Fire walls can be a pain. Many people that are software developers compalin about programs like Norton as it blocks so many things - even what you do not want blocked. I do not use Norton but they tell me there are things you can do to prevent Norton from blocking as you have described. I am not sure where to even suggest to begin! [:)]

Simon,

The message below is what pops up with my firewall enabled. For the moment I turn it off when I log on, which is not a big deal. As Tom said, these firewalls are a pain. I'm thinking of doing away with it because I thought it would help block out all the spam emails, but apparently it's useless for that.

You should look for the following specific sections in the firewall's help file should you need to tweak your firewall settings:

Ad-blocking, as we use pop-up windows for various page functionalities. You should set the block level to "low" or turn it off completely while browsing our forums. Some firewall software can't differentiate an Ad from legitimate page functionalities.
User Agent settings, as we need to identify whether you are accessing our forums from the designated URL (specified by forum admin). In our case, the designated URL would be: http://www.foroflamenco.com/
Script-blocking, as we use JavaScript for various page functionalities. Our JavaScript codes are available for viewing in case you are unsure of the safety issues involved.
Trusted Site/Zone, as you can set our forum's URL as a trusted URL in your firewall to prevent all the problems without having to switch off the above features in your firewall.
